The Council of Ministers approved on Tuesday, at the proposal of the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, the distribution of 3,507,253 euros to Cantabria to guarantee the protection of families and combat child poverty, as well as to develop basic benefits of social services in the region.
The territorial distribution for the autonomous communities and cities benefiting from this agreement amounts to a total of 198,704,000 euros, whose final approval will be submitted to the Territorial Council of Social Services and the System for Autonomy and Care of the Unit.
Family Protection and Child Poverty Care Program
The protection of families and the fight against child poverty will have a total investment of 65 million euros, of which Cantabria will receive 1,504,693 euros. These funds will, in turn, cover two lines of action:
- 1,146,485 euros for the financing of projects aimed at alleviating and improving the situation of social vulnerability of families, covering basic needs of food, hygiene or clothing; and facilitating access to other services such as health, education, housing or employment, as well as support for family and work conciliation and social support and work with families.
- 358,208 euros directed to the development of specific programs that guarantee the basic right to food, leisure and culture of children and adolescents during school holidays and the reconciliation of family and work life.
Strengthening Child and Family Care
This agreement includes the distribution of 25 million euros for programs to strengthen child and family care teams in primary care social services, as foreseen in the Law on the Integral Protection of Children and Adolescents from Violence (LOPIVI).
From this item, Cantabria will receive 375,000 euros for the financing of the reinforcement of the children and family teams of the network of social services of primary care and will provide citizens with adequate social services that allow the prevention and early detection of any risk of violence towards children, promoting competence in their parenting functions by families.
Strengthening the social services network
In addition, the total investment for the beneficiary autonomous communities and cities includes more than 108.7 million euros to guarantee the basic provision of social services, in order to maintain the network of social services of primary care and provide citizens with adequate social services to cover their basic needs.
To this end, Cantabria will manage an investment of 1,627,560 euros to activate projects that guarantee the development of basic services aimed at informing and guiding the population, strengthening home help and support for the coexistence unit, as well as strengthening alternative accommodation and prevention and social inclusion.
