The delegate of the Government in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, accompanied by the subdelegate of the Government in Las Palmas, Teresa Mayans, presided today the coordination meeting of the security and emergency device for the Fiestas del Pino that will be held next September in Gran Canaria.
The mayor of Teror, Sergio Nuez, as well as other representatives of Teror City Council, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the General Directorate of Traffic of the Ministry of the Interior, the Civil Guard, the National Police, the General Corps of the Canary Police and the Local Police of Teror, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Telde y Arucas, of Civil Protection, of the Diocese of the Canary Islands, and of the companies Global Salcai-Utinsa and Provital.
The Government delegate in the Canary Islands has thanked the Security Forces and Bodies and public and private institutions and organizations that participate in this device to ensure that the festivities develop “normally”, a security and emergency device that, he explained, will integrate between 800 and 1,000 people.
“They are effective enough to attend such an important event for the island of Gran Canaria and for the Canary Islands as this one,” said Anselmo Pestana, who has said that in a technical meeting in the coming weeks the possibility of prohibiting access by bicycle and skateboard on September 7 and 8 will be studied to avoid security problems with emergency services and in traffic, which “is already very limited” those days, he said, for the development of the party itself.
“Just as there are limitations for other types of vehicle users, since in this case bicycles and scooters could be limited those days,” said the government delegate, who has recognized the “civic, exemplary behavior” of people who have enjoyed the Pine Festival in recent years, while calling on citizens to repeat that behavior on this occasion.
“Let us enjoy the festivities of both the religious part and the more playful part and let us do it with the awareness that we all have a good time,” he concluded.
For his part, the mayor of Teror has highlighted the importance of these security meetings, both those held prior to the Fiestas del Pino and subsequent ones, in which the failures committed are analyzed, which allows us to see “how each year the incidence rate drops”.
Sergio Nuez expressed his desire that, as always, security be “as effective as possible” in the face of the large number of pilgrims who travel to the municipality and also wanted to thank not only the Security Forces and Corps and emergencies, but also the volunteers mobilized by the City Council and the Cabildo of Gran Canaria.
As a novelty, this year the Fiesta del Pino will have in its security plan a system of eight closed-circuit surveillance cameras, installed in squares and streets of the Teror hull of greater influx, which allow a rapid location of conflicts or incidents on September 7 and 8. At the same time, it will have the collaboration of the Drones Unit of the Local Police of Telde, which will also form the Security device of the Fiesta del Pino 2023.
