The delegate of the Government in the Canary Islands, has presided today in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria the meeting for the coordination of the security device on the occasion of the meeting that the Sports Union Las Palmas and Deportivo Alavés will play this Saturday at the Gran Canaria Stadium.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the City of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Insular Sports Institute of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the National Police, the Civil Guard, the Local Police and the two football clubs.
Following the recommendations of the State Commission against Violence, Racism and Xenophobia, a special security mechanism will be carried out both in the hours before and after the meeting. Due to the sporting importance of the crash, in which both teams are playing to advance to the First Division, the match has been declared a “high-risk” match.
“We hope that all fans and fans who go to the Gran Canaria Stadium can enjoy the match as this occasion deserves. What everyone wants is to see a great sporting event and we trust that in the Canary Islands we will give a new example of civility so that the two hobbies can live the encounter without shocks. We know, we are convinced, that we are going to enjoy the football party. And I hope that at that party the color that predominates is yellow,” said the government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana.
“We are aware of the importance of the meeting and this is why a special deployment will be carried out to guarantee the safety of the entire fans. Hopefully on Saturday we can celebrate that UD Las Palmas rises to Primera”, he added.
For the security device proposed for the meeting, the State and City of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have arranged the deployment of some 220 agents of the National Police, Civil Guard and Local Police, who will be joined by more than 20 people among the staff of the Sports Council of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and external companies that work for it.
For the meeting, the National Police has arranged the participation of three operational groups of the Police Intervention Unit, an operational subgroup of the Prevention and Reaction Unit, police of the Citizen Care groups, the Air Media Unit with a helicopter, drone and anti-drone, as well as canine guides. In total, a device of about 150 National Police personnel with presence in addition to the agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard.
For its part, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has established the intervention of 60 local police officers, including mobility agents. And the Las Palmas Sports Union has arranged the participation of 100 private security guards in the State, to which 125 private security assistants are added.
The operative expects more than 30,000 fans at the Gran Canaria Stadium. There will be a police presence not only at the time of the match, but also in the hours before the match in the tours to the Stadium and, subsequently, in areas annexed to Mesa and López and Plaza de España in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in case of celebrations.
