The Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, has inaugurated today from the island of La Palma the events organized by the Government Delegation on the occasion of the Open Administration Week 2023, in which a series of activities will be carried out in Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro to make known at first hand the work of the State in the Archipelago.
From the Insular Directorate of the General Administration of the State in La Palma and together with the Insular Director, Ana de León, Anselmo Pestana has opened the week of activities in connection with the rest of the headquarters of the Government Delegation in the Archipelago, from where he has been accompanied by the Sub-delegates of the Government in Las Palmas, Teresa Mayans, and in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Javier Plata, the Insular Director in La Gomera, Juan Luis Navarro, and by the Secretary General of the Insular Directorate in Fuerteventito, García.
Open Government Week, an initiative coordinated and promoted by the General Directorate of Public Governance of the Government of Spain and framed in the International Alliance for Open Government, seeks to bring Public Administrations closer to citizens, based on the principles of transparency, accountability, citizen participation, public integrity and collaboration.
The government delegate in the Canary Islands took the opportunity to convey to public employees his gratitude for joining these initiatives: “One of the lessons learned from the health crisis caused by Covid-19 is the importance of having sufficiently equipped and effective public services. And in this regard, the backbone of public services, which are workers in the public sector, deserve all our respect, recognition,” he said.
“During this week, more than a thousand events will take place in our country, such as those that we are presenting here today, the purpose of which is to strengthen the links between public authorities and citizens, highlighting the commitment of our institutions to the development of the values of transparency, accountability, citizen participation and the collaboration of Public Administrations with Society,” said Anselmo Pestana.
“Without a doubt, this Open Administration Week is an unbeatable opportunity for all citizens of our country to know better how the Administrations work and become familiar with the values of Open Government that must guide the performance of public responsibilities and the actions of the Administrations,” he added.
First activities of Open Administration Week 2023
This Monday, Anselmo Pestana also participated in an informative session organized by the Insular Directorate in La Palma on the Plan “The Administration near you” of the Ministry of Territorial Policy at the Adult Education Center “Guayafanta” of Los Llanos de Aridane.
In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Deputy Delegate of the Government attended the opening day of the Open Administration Week, in which the Secretary General of the Delegation of the Government, Juan José Santana, and the heads of the different Units, Services and Offices of the institution explained the work carried out in it.
On the first day, also at the headquarters of the Government Delegation in the Plaza de la Feria de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the territorial delegate of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) in the Canary Islands, David Suárez, exposed to the attendees the work they do from this public body.
In Tenerife, the Subdelegation of the Government in Santa Cruz de Tenerife organized for this Monday a day of visibility of the action of its Health and Social Policy Unit, in which the interested people could accompany a hygienic-sanitary inspection on board a ship.
For its part, the Insular Directorate in La Gomera organized for this first day of the Open Administration Week 2023 an informative session on the Plan “The Administration near you” at its headquarters, aimed particularly at non-community resident foreign citizens.
