The delegate of the Government in Asturias, Adriana Lastra, has presented together with the mayor of Avilés, Mariví Monteserín, the day of coexistence and participation ‘Libres. Youth and Democracy’, which will take place on Saturday, September 26 in the Parque del Muelle. This activity is part of the ‘Celebration of 50 years of Spain in freedom’ in the Principality of Asturias, an initiative of the Government of Spain through the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory.
The Parque del Muelle will be the setting for this event aimed at the Asturian youth to celebrate 50 years of democracy in Spain through music, participation and new digital formats. The day will take place from 12 noon, in morning and afternoon sessions, under the impetus of the Government Delegation and the Commissioner for the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Spain in Freedom, in collaboration with the City of Avilés. The cast of participating artists includes ‘Chica Excelalto’, ‘Noan’, ‘Las Petunias’, ‘Dededede’, ‘DJ María Martín’, ‘DJ Pablo Águila’, ‘Tangerine’, ‘Carmen Pérez’, ‘Camila Filipa’ and ‘DJ Carmen’. In addition, there will be a meeting point for youth entities, social organizations and participation groups. This day seeks to commemorate the path traveled in rights, freedoms and coexistence. It is also intended to promote the active participation of young people in the story of democracy.
The delegate of the Government has stressed that the initiative of the Government of Spain aims to make visible the social and political transformations that have consolidated the country as a full and advanced democracy. For Adriana Lastra there is much to celebrate, both for the freedoms achieved and for the opportunities for the future, while she sees it necessary to be alert in the face of hoaxes and hate speeches that seek to backtrack on rights and harm coexistence. For this reason, it has encouraged daily social participation and to attend this Saturday the event ‘Libres. Youth and Democracy’. Likewise, the mayor of Avilés has stressed that we are living in moments of great changes and transformations that must be guided by the values of democracy, justice and freedom, and championed by youth as happened in the transition years. “That is why we wanted Avilés to participate within the framework of the ‘50 years’ initiative. Spain in Libertad’, which leads the government of Spain, with an event starring youth and what better than through music and words. Youth must be the main defender of our democracy,” he said.
COMMITMENT TO DEMOCRATIC MEMORY
This activity completes the programming of commemorative events developed since last year in several Asturian localities to address the participation of women in democratic progress; social changes in the rural environment; freedom of expression; cultural evolution in these five decades; and the advances and challenges of politics from the Transition to the present. In this way, Asturias joins the plurality of commemorative events organized in a decentralized manner throughout the national territory, reinforcing the commitment of the Government of Spain to democratic memory.
