Red.es, entity attached to the Ministryfor the Digital and Public Service Transformation through the Secretary of State for Artificial Intelligence and Digitalization, has today published the resolution of RedCyTI (: RedCyTI SMART ECONOMY - PROGRAM TO PROMOTE SMART CITIES AND TERRITORIES FOR THE PROMOTION OF ECONOMIC AND PRODUCTIVE DEVELOPMENT | Headquarters), a programme to promote the “promotion of economic and productive development” of smart cities and territories, by which it hopes to mobilise EUR 2 million in Asturias.
The contribution of Red.es, €1.2 million, will cover 60% of the initiative budget presented by the Government of the Principality (2 million euros)
It is expected to mobilize with this call, at least 126 M€, with the Contribution from local entities and uniprovincial autonomous communities. Red.es will allocate more than 94 M€ -adding its own funds and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)- contributing, according to the CC.AA. since it is presented, between 40 and 85% of each initiative selected, and whose budget must be between 1.5 and 6 M€. The entities that have been able to apply for this aid have been local entities (municipalities, deputies, island councils, island councils and counties) and uniprovincial autonomous communities.
The project selected in Asturias is a Digital Twin of the Logistic-Industrial Territory, the Development of a regional platform for industrial competitiveness and logistics, based on a digital twin designed as infrastructure for the optimization of the productive system.
RedCyTI: Boosting the Intelligent Economy
Projects will involve actions to create or strengthen Technological infrastructures and the associated solutions and services, available to strategic sectors of economic activity, with the purpose of testing and developing technologies of sectoral application. They also involve the possibility of creating or improving spaces for the promotion of innovation and the strengthening of the sectoral ecosystem, in order to promote the development of the economy and employment, both at local, regional and state level. Examples of these actions would be the creation of test spaces or sandboxes for the mobility and transport sector (vehicles
Connected and autonomous, drones, etc. ), the creation of laboratories innovation cities, or the provision of the necessary infrastructures for the testing and development of application technologies to sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, livestock, energy, etc. The criteria of granting have valued aspects such as the degree of
Digital maturity, the impact of the initiative on economic development local and its sustainability. The selected projects will receive a grant that will be tendered and executed by Red.es.
Promoting employment and entrepreneurship
According to the European Commission, “a smart city or territory has It aims to improve the well-being of its inhabitants, companies, visitors, organizations and administrators by providing digital services that contribute to a better quality of life.” The actions can take place in six dimensions: Living (associated to the
quality of life), People (citizen participation), Environment (sustainability), Mobility (mobility), Economy (economic development) and Governance (governance of the city or territory).
The Smart City dimension called Smart Economy, in the which RedCyTi focuses on, is understood as the intersection between city and economy, and includes all those initiatives that, promoted from cities and territories, are aimed at promoting digitalization in the service of economic activity, employment and entrepreneurship. Since the approval of the National Plan of Smart Cities in 2015, the Government of Spain has made five calls in which Red.es has played a leading role. In total, more than 200 million euros - cofinanced by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) - have been allocated to 59 initiatives spread throughout the national territory: 25 cities, 24 tourist destinations, 7 buildings and 3 islands. In addition, Red.es, it collaborates continuously with the Spanish Network of Smart Cities (RECI) and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) to promote the development of Smart Cities and Territories.
