Public employees and employees of the General Administration of the State have participated in the minute of silence to condemn four murders for gender violence: de Melinda, in Malaga, on July 21; Paula, in Cantabria, on July 31; Laura, in Asturias, and Gloria, in Murcia, on August 5.
36 women have been killed by their partner or ex-partner so far this year and three minors have been killed for gender violence. Since 2003, 1,377 women have been killed. Since 2013, 68 boys and girls have been killed for gender-based violence against their mother, 536 children have been orphaned, 26 of them in 2026.
The Government Delegation in Asturias, together with the Ministry of Equality and the other Delegations, Subdelegations of the Government of Spain and the Island Directorates of the General Administration of the State, conveys its strongest condemnation of the murders for gender violence and affirms in an institutional declaration that it will “persevere” to continue moving from “unity and firmness” towards a society “fairer, more egalitarian and free of male violence”, despite the negationist approaches.
The institutional statement read after the minute of silence by the head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women, Verónica Fernández, stresses that, as a democratic society, “no violence against women can be tolerated because they are women.” “Male violence is a structural violence, based on sexist discrimination, inequality and imbalance in power relations between women and men,” says the text read.
