The Directorate General of Traffic launches today Friday 14 at 3 p.m. a new Special Operation on the occasion of the holiday of August 15 that will last until 24 hours on Sunday 16.
In these three days, Traffic forecasts that there will be 5,610,000 movements of both long and short distance, 177,000 of them in Asturias. During this weekend, in addition to the departure and return trips due to the change of Quincena will join those that are carried out to populations of the coast and beaches or areas of second residence because it is a few days of leisure and weekend rest within the typically holiday month that is August.
In addition, as usual, this weekend coincides with the celebration of the patron saint’s festivities in a large number of towns so that short distance trips will also be increased to travel to them, both on the main road network and in the secondary, especially in the nights and the early hours of these days of Special Operation.
This device is launched after a weekend in which 19 deaths have been recorded in traffic accidents (one of them in Asturias). For this reason, the DGT insists on drivers taking extreme road safety measures and, most especially, not driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. In addition, it is essential never to lower your guard, whether it be day trips or night trips, even if it is a short and well-known journey, to put on your safety belt, respect the speed limits and road signs.
During these days, the preventive measures of control of speed, alcohol and drugs by the Surveillance Forces of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard will be intensified.
SPECIAL MEASURES
To cover the large number of journeys that will take place these days and make all of them safe, Traffic has established a series of traffic regulation, management and monitoring measures for which it has the maximum availability of its human resources: agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, official staff of the 8 Traffic Management Centers and personnel in charge of equipment maintenance and the installation of road measures, in addition to the personnel of the emergency services.
With regard to material resources, the DGT has fixed and mobile speed control radars, camouflaged cameras and vans to control the use of mobiles and seat belts, as well as helicopters and drones for surveillance from the air and unmarked vehicles and motorcycles that will circulate on all types of roads in order to check the correct behavior of drivers during driving.
In order to encourage traffic, work on the roads will be paralysed, the holding of sports tests and other events involving the occupation of the road will be restricted and the movement of vehicles carrying dangerous goods, special transports, as well as the movement of freight trucks in general, on certain stretches of roads, dates and times will be restricted.
