Due to road traffic problems due to the expected snowfall in the Cantabrian Mountain Range from tomorrow, the Directorate-General for Traffic requests that citizens have to travel by road to consult the weather forecast and the state of the road on which the roads are going, as well as to have chains in case their use is necessary to circulate or have winter tyres installed or all the time.
These precipitations can affect the circulation not only of regional and local roads, but also high-capacity roads - highways and highways.
On the other hand, yesterday Sunday morning there was the detachment of the hillside on the AP-66 highway in kilometric 76, being impossible the circulation by the aforementioned road and being interrupted the connection between the autonomous community of Asturias and the Community of Castilla y León.
Faced with this situation, the only way of communication between both communities is the N-630 road that runs through the port of Pajares, one of the ports in which traffic restrictions are first established and the use of chains or winter tires to be able to circulate in adverse weather situations.
With this snow forecast and taking into account the high slopes and its high altitude along which this road runs, it is not recommended as an alternative route for the road transport of goods for reasons of road safety.
From the DGT, the routes that run along the A-67 motorway of the plateau that connects Palencia with Santander and later the A-8 “Cantabrian Axis” are recommended. For destinations in the area of Asturias-Oriental (Llanes, Ribadesella), as well as the itinerary by A-6 to Lugo to take the A-8 “Cantabrian Axis”, for destinations the area of Asturias-Occidental (Navia, Luarca).
