The delegate of the Government, Delia Losa, has visited together with the mayor of Siero, Ángel García, and the head of the State Road Demarcation in Asturias, Mireya Muñoz, the two glorietas executed by the Ministry of Transport to improve road safety at two intersections of the N-634 as it passes through Siero.
The actions are part of a global project of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda in eight points of state roads passing through five councils and which has a budget of 4.1 million euros: three in Mieres, two in Siero, one in Coaña, one in Parres and another in Oviedo. Of all of them, only the latter, access to Oviedo from the southern round to the A-66, is pending execution. The actions have been chosen based on their dangerousness index.
Siero’s two performances represent an outlay of 642,544 euros: one located at pk 391, in La Carrera, and another at pk 400, in Viella. They are two intersections that have been transformed into roundabouts to improve safety conditions, by eliminating all left turns and roadway crossings. Lighting has also been improved using LED technology and a 20-metre-high lighting tower equipped with four projectors has been placed on the central island of the La Carrera roundabout.
