The delegate of the Government, Delia Losa, has presented the device put in place by the Delegation of the Government in Asturias for the autonomous, local and rural parish elections of May 28. It has done so in the facilities of the State Mobile Park, the place of reception and storage of the material supplied by the Government to the polling stations.
Only the local elections are under state competence, but the General Administration of the State assumes all the common elements of the three processes called for this Sunday and for which 958,635 people are called to the polls in Asturias. Thus, in April, the Ministry of the Interior and the Government of the Principality signed an agreement on electoral management that addresses a series of plans for collaboration to use the necessary resources efficiently.
According to that agreement, Interior supplies the ballot boxes, booths, or signage supports of premises that are requested. For these elections, the ministry has contributed 390 new ballot boxes, 120 booths, 20 stands, 255 local posters and 858 table posters. The remaining material needed for the 1,559 polling stations is preserved from previous elections.
In addition, the Government Delegation in Asturias assumes the contracting of material common to the three electoral processes: 9,450 copies of meeting records, 9,450 copies of voting records and 4,860 copies of numbered lists of voters. On the ballot papers, the municipalities and the Autonomous Government hire the ones that correspond to them.
The Government Delegation is also responsible for appointing the 889 representatives of the Administration selected by the municipalities and whose main function is to transmit to the Data Processing Center the result of the provisional ballot at the polling stations. They are also responsible for communicating data on incidents in the constitution of the polling stations and ensuring that there is sufficient electoral material in the schools. In the Government Delegation there will be about 20 people working on the day of the elections to coordinate representatives, transmit data, provide assistance and resolve incidents.
The Government Delegation is also responsible for processing requests for sign language interpreters for members of polling stations in collaboration with the State Confederation of Deaf Persons. To this day we have only received a request from an alternate of a table.
In addition, the Government Delegation is responsible for managing and financing health transport for people who are admitted to hospitals and who wish to vote. The Civil Protection Unit will receive the needs of the hospitals this Friday and will be communicated to Transinsa, which will take care of these displacements. The Government Delegation also provides transportation to people who need help to go to their polling station. At the moment 16 municipalities have requested this service.
To guarantee security in the polling stations, there will be a Security Forces and Corps device made up of 2,098 people: 1,413 civilian guards, 685 national police and 213 local police.
On May 28, 958,635 people have the right to vote in Asturias, of which 123,184 reside abroad. Correos has admitted 27,902 requests to vote by mail in Asturias.
