Zaragoza.- The students Sheila Pérez, Clara Saludas, Hugo Gómez-Espinosa, and África Navarro have been awarded today with the prizes of the 6th edition of the comic contest against gender violence of the Government Delegation in Aragón aimed at young people from educational centers of the Community. More than 120 students, from 21 educational centers in Aragon, have presented themselves to this contest, which shows the commitment of the Government of Spain to the fight against one of the main problems of our society and which is addressed from education and through storytelling in vignettes.
The government delegate in Aragón, Fernando Beltrán, has pointed out that “it is a disservice to themselves and society that deny the existence of male violence”, which he recalled is “a reality that unfortunately is seen in the 19 women murdered so far this year by their partners or ex-partners, and in all cases that are denounced daily”. Faced with this, he has opposed “the young people, and also the educators, educational centers and families that support them, who show us with their cartoons the reality and help us to be more aware of where the work of the institutions should be oriented”.
The subdelegates in Teruel and Huesca, Enrique Gómez and José Carlos Campo participated in the awards ceremony. In addition, representatives of the High Educational Inspection and the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women have attended.
In the act, the Zaragoza cartoonist Sara Jotabé intervened, who encouraged the students to “use the language of the comic” to “form opinion and help” in the face of the “monster” represented by male violence. For her part, Sheila Pérez, representing all the winners of this edition, has highlighted “the importance of the comic book in society for its ability to denounce injustices and help to be aware of what happens around us”.
