Zaragoza.- This spring in Aragón has been an extremely warm season in terms of the character of the temperatures and dry in terms of rainfall, in particular, it has been the warmest spring, equaled with that of 2023, of the historical series. These are the data that the climate balance presented this Wednesday in a press conference by the delegate of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), Arcadio Blasco, an organism dependent on the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge.
The spring of 2026 (period between March 1, 2026 and May 31, 2025) has been extremely warm in terms of temperatures in the whole of Aragon, with an anomaly of +1.7°C compared to the average of the reference period 1991-2020.
The cumulative precipitation percentages in the last quarter, with respect to the reference averages (1991-2020), represent an average of 86% with respect to the normal value, showing a dry character. According to the data provided in the appearance before the media, the average value of rainfall in this quarter stood at 139.8 mm, leaving an average deficit of 22 mm. In short, the spring of 2026 is the twenty-seventh driest since the beginning of the series, in 1961.
SEASONAL PREDICTION
The quarter formed by the months of June, July and August, coinciding approximately with the astronomical summer that begins this Sunday, June 21, will probably be, according to the models, warmer than normal in Aragón, with a probability of being in the upper hot zone by 60%.
In terms of precipitation, the quarter is the highest probability that the accumulated precipitation is in the upper tertile due mainly to the heavy rain or downpours that occur on these dates and that are often accompanied by hail, electric apparatus and strong wind gusts. They usually affect very specific areas, large amounts of water can cause sudden floods, occur in a very short time, are difficult to predict accurately and can develop quickly.
BALANCE AGRICULTURAL YEAR
The current agricultural year will have, according to the models, a normal character in terms of rainfall, that is, they will have an average of 99% and with an average deficit of -4mm. As for the temperatures, the balance is very warm, with a +1.3°C anomaly, becoming the warmest in the series.
