Huesca.- The deputy delegate of the Government in Huesca, José Carlos Campo, has presented the balance of the Plan Veo after its first six months of operation. Since its launch on December 17, 2025, a total of 1,098 minors have accessed this aid for the purchase of glasses and lenses in the province of Huesca. As a whole, the program has doubled the estimates made for this period, so the Ministry of Health has expanded its allocation to 70 million euros to meet the demand and give it continuity in 2027.
The subdelegate José Carlos Campo visited this Thursday Optic Guara, in the capital of Altoaragon, one of the 36 establishments participating in the program in the province. There, with the help of Luzía Ripoll, head of Optics Guara and delegate of the Professional College of Optometrists of Aragón, she has been able to see the good functioning of an initiative that “represents a great advance in the way of understanding public health, because that children see well is fundamental for their academic performance and for them to have equal opportunities in any other field of life”.
Campo has expressed its gratitude to the optometric optical professionals, who represent the majority channel for the management of the Plan’s requests. “The Government of Spain approves the measure and puts the budget, but without this collaboration, which also allows to reach the entire territory, it would not be possible to put it into practice,” he said.
A collaboration that Luzía Ripoll also wanted to highlight. “The plan has been a good initiative to make the revisions to the children since they also make the families aware because in the end the vision influences the school results,” said Ripoll. “In this way, if any problem is detected and we can put the solution, it can be tackled as soon as possible, but if we cannot, the case can be transferred to the ophthalmologist” he added.
The Veo Plan is an aid program of the Government of Spain aimed at financing the purchase of glasses, graduated lenses and contact lenses with an amount of up to 100 euros per beneficiary, covering the underage population up to and including 16 years of age. According to the data collected until May 2026, the program has registered a growing reception, reaching 325,000 beneficiaries nationwide, of which 8,734 are Aragonese. Regarding the visual health of minors, the most frequent corrections through lens have been those aimed at astigmatism, myopia and hyperopia.
Faced with this high demand, the Ministry of Health has strengthened the programme’s allocation with an extension of 23.4 million euros, raising the funding of the Veo Plan to 70 million euros in 2026. This increase will allow the initiative to adapt to the real needs of the beneficiary population and guarantee its continuity during 2027.
