Zaragoza.- Under the slogans “Community free of male violence” and “Your story can save a life”, the Delegation of the Government of Spain in Aragón and the College of Farm Administrators of Aragón have launched a new awareness campaign aimed at the communities of neighbors with the aim of preventing, detecting and combating gender violence from the nearest environment, the building itself.
The initiative includes the placement of information posters in portals, elevators and common areas of the adhered communities, with clear messages that appeal to neighborhood involvement and facilitate telephone calls for attention and emergency: 016, 091 and 062. In addition, the proposal includes a decalogue on what to do in the face of a case of gender violence in each of the communities.
The latest data from the report of the General Council of the Judiciary and the Observatory against Domestic Violence and Gender Violence show that 76.1% of assaults on women occurred within a home, common or one of the members of the couple or ex-couple, a figure higher than the average of the last 15 years, which stood at 75.6%. With this premise that male violence occurs mostly in the private sphere, it turns neighbors into potential witnesses of risk situations. Noises, arguments, screams, prolonged silences or strange behaviors can be warning signs to which you should not remain indifferent. “Three out of four women are murdered in a home, therefore, if neighbors see, hear or suspect that a case of gender violence is taking place, they must give the voice of alarm because it can be the first step to protect those who need it,” explained the subdelegate of the Government of Spain in Zaragoza, Noelia Herrero. In fact, Herrero insisted, “citizen collaboration is key to breaking the silence that surrounds many cases of gender violence.”
For his part, the president of the Association of Farm Managers of Aragón, Germán Pardiñas, has stressed that farm managers and communities have a fundamental role as agents of early detection. “Our colleagues are aware, we live it daily and we are going to put the means before something irremediable happens,” the president said. In this way, communities will help channel information and activate available resources when there is a well-founded suspicion.
The initiative is part of the State Pact against Gender Violence and reinforces the institutional commitment to create safe environments, promote denunciation and protect victims, remembering that any person can and must act if he or she presence or suspects a situation of abuse.
The posters include direct and accessible messages, with illustrations that represent everyday life in the buildings, to interpellate neighbors of all ages and facilitate the identification of possible cases.
With this campaign, the Government Delegation in Aragon and the Farm Administrators of Aragon are committed to actively involving citizens in the fight against male violence, remembering that an informed and committed community can save lives.
