Zaragoza.- The government delegate in Aragón, Fernando Beltrán, has presided over the first Security Board on the occasion of the total solar eclipse scheduled for August 12, 2026. The meeting, attended by representatives of the Government of Aragón, the City of Zaragoza, the State Security Forces and Bodies and the Local Police of Zaragoza, was an initial contact to establish institutional coordination for this astronomical event.
The eclipse of August 12, 2026, first of the three planned on the Iberian Peninsula (the following will be in August 2027 and in January 2028), will have in Aragon one of the territories with better visibility, especially in the provinces of Zaragoza and Teruel. The National Geographic Institute has already prepared a map that establishes the coverage area and the percentage of darkening.
It should be noted that the expected time interval to see the total eclipse in Spain is from 20:27 to 20:33, a proximity to the sunset that will make the areas of a certain height and without visual obstacles the most suitable to enjoy the phenomenon.
In the Board, with the presence, among others, of the Director General of Interior and Emergencies of the Government of Aragón, Miguel Ángel Clavero, and the Councilor for Presidency, Institutional Relations and Citizen Security of the City of Zaragoza, Ángel Lorén; as well as the Chief General of the Area of Aragón of the Civil Guard, Antonio Orantos; the Superior Head of National Police in Aragón, José Ángel Sanz; and the Superintendent of the Local Police of Zaragoza, Antonio Soriano, all the institutions involved have been established to take part.
Among the main points of interest to be followed are the management of visitor flows, national and international; traffic monitoring and citizen security, and the application of the regulations in the event that popular events are convened to see the eclipse. On the part of the Government of Spain, last July 2025 the creation of an Interministerial Commission for the Trio of Eclipses was approved, which in November was extended to the Autonomous Communities.
