Daroca.- The government delegate in Aragón, Fernando Beltrán, visited today the works of the future base of the Forest Fire Reinforcement Brigade (BRIF) of Daroca (Zaragoza). This work, undertaken by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, through the General Directorate of Biodiversity, Forests and Desertification, aims to expand and modernize the facilities of the 10 existing bases in Spain and is financed with funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the European Union.
The works that are being carried out in Daroca, and in the rest of the bases, will allow to improve the working and training conditions of the BRIF, update the facilities to the current working regulations and adapt them to the regulations of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, in terms of the operation of aircraft in forest fires. In addition, both in the construction and in its subsequent use it is an energy-efficient building adapted to the characteristics of the site.
The new facilities are built on a mountain of public utility, owned by the City of Daroca, and are very close to those they have been using since the BRIF was created in the 1970s. They consist of a warehouse, a helisurface, and a two-storey building and three areas, joined together but perfectly differentiated:
- A central area of access to the building, which also houses a classroom, offices and an area for broadcasters and technicians, and allows the connection with the other two areas:
- On the left wing are the dressing rooms for technicians, pilots and foremen, kitchen, living and dining area, and an area of double and single rooms, with their own bathrooms.
- The right wing is dedicated to forest firefighters and foremen, in which living spaces, kitchen, changing rooms and toilets, a gym and an area for the physical trainer are also reproduced. This area has a closed gallery with lattice, but very ventilated, so that they can hang and air the PPE when they return from a fire.
Fernando Beltrán was pleased to have been able to make a visit that he had in his “must” as delegate of the Government of Spain in Aragón and highlighted “the commitment” of both the ministry and the Government of Spain “to improve the bases and working conditions of the BRIF”, which will result “in a better service to society”. Previously, the delegate met with the staff of the BRIF and thanked them for their “essential work, both in the work of prevention and in the extinction, always at the service of society at all times of the year”.
The works, which could be completed by mid-2026, have a budget of 4.8 million euros, from the funds of the EU Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and are carried out by Ineco and Tragsa, two public companies dependent on the ministries of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, and of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
