The deputy delegate of the Government in Huesca, Carlos Campo, visited Almudévar to meet with his mayor, Sofía Avellanas, the project of consolidation and restoration of the Castle of the Crown. For the execution of these works, the Government of Spain has granted the City Council of the locality an aid of 307,000 euros, within the framework of the 2% Cultural Program of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda.
In particular, the Government of Spain will cover 60% of the total project budget, which amounts to 511,000 euros. In this same call for grants from the 2% Cultural Program, the other project benefited in the province was the Catholic Circle of Huesca, presented by the Government of Aragón, with 447,000 euros.
The subdelegate of the Government in Huesca, Carlos Campo, recalled that “the 2% Cultural Program is the main tool of the General Administration of the State to preserve the heritage, with a cultural criterion, but also with a perspective of creation of wealth and employment”. In the case of Almudévar, he said, “his City Council has proposed this project as the starting point to turn this medieval complex into a powerful tourist attraction”.
Campo has stressed that, with this and other aid within the framework of the Recovery Plan, “the Government of Spain is investing decisively in recovering the cultural heritage of our province, which is the same as investing in creating new opportunities for our peoples.” Thus, it has estimated that, in the last two years, and with the horizon of 2026 that mark the European funds, investments and aid in the field of asset recovery of 20 million euros have been mobilized in the province.
European funds and direct investment
Campo recalled that, within the Public Buildings Rehabilitation Program (PIREP) of the Ministry of Housing, numerous actions are under way to recover other emblematic buildings of the province. Among the most notable interventions of the PIREP are the Monzón Sugar Factory, with an aid of 2,356,999 euros; the Florida Cinema and the San José School of Calasanz de Fraga, with 724,217 and 1,813,845 euros, respectively; the San Ramón de Barbastro Warehouses, with 1,361,880 euros; the Old Hospital of Jaca, with 1,217,857 euros; the Children's Residence of the DPH, with 3,000,000 euros, the Algodonera of Antigua Binéfar, with 989,738 euros;
In addition, the resolution of the aid of the Program for the Improvement of Competitiveness and Revitalization of the Historical Heritage with tourist use was recently approved, within the framework of the Recovery Plan, with which the Ministry of Industry and Tourism has allocated 1,985,096 euros to the Valdeolivos Palace of Fonz and 2,634,113 euros to the Casino of Huesca.
For Campo, “all these investments immediately return to the territory in the creation of tourism and employment; as an example we have the Castle of Montearagón which, after its restoration by the Ministry of Culture, has become a dynamizing element for Quicena and its surroundings thanks to its visit plan”. In this same line of direct intervention, Campo has noted the works carried out by the Ministry of Finance in the fort of Santa Quiteria de Monzón.
