The deputy delegate of the Government in Huesca, Carlos Campo, presided this morning a working meeting in order to coordinate security actions in the Comarca of the Monegros. The meeting, requested by the regional body, was attended by Óscar Vergara, commander of the Civil Guard, and the president of the region, Pedro Loscertales, as well as workers from the social area of the regional institution, in order to address the issue in a broad and transversal way.
The meeting explained that the level of complaints registered in the area during 2023 has remained in parameters similar to previous years, with an increase of 5% in those related to property crimes, which has been accompanied by an increase in the clarification of criminal acts. In this sense, actions such as the recent “Operation Dump”, which resulted in the arrest of 11 of those responsible for a criminal organization that is accused of 121 robberies in homes in localities such as Sariñena, other high-rise towns as well as other provinces of northern Spain, or the “Operation Grako”, which allowed the dismantling of a drug sale point in Grañén.
With regard to the security of citizens in Grañén and the presence in the locality of a person repeat offender for breaching sentences against two victims, the Civil Guard has been monitoring the situation from the outset, with agents of different specialties of the Huesca Command, as well as citizen security agents belonging to posts near the locality. The town has the attention of the Civil Guard at all times, and with regard to this specific situation, since the complaint occurred in December, several services have been carried out focused on the location and detention of the alleged author of the events that occurred; finally, on the 25th, this person was arrested and brought to justice, leaving the person in custody with precautionary measures.
In order to respond to the social concern generated by this situation, at this meeting it has been agreed to strengthen the presence of agents of the Civil Guard in the area, as well as to work in coordination with the regional entity, especially with its Social Services area, to offer a comprehensive and transversal approach to the situation and promote citizen collaboration.
In another area, that of road safety, there has been an increase in the presence of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard after verifying a significant increase in the accident in the area, with three deaths in a traffic accident during 2023, compared to the absence of fatalities in 2022, has caused that the surveillance devices on these roads have been strengthened to minimize the accident, as required by the road safety strategy of the DGT.
