The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, highlighted during the inauguration of the new Police Station of the National Police of Calatayud, the “continuous commitment of the ministry to security”, a reality that translates into an important investment effort to modernize its infrastructures with the aim of improving the working conditions of officials and the attention to citizens.
The minister has been accompanied by the general director of the police, Francisco Pardo, the government delegate in Aragón, Fernando Beltrán, and the mayor of Calatayud, José Manuel Aranda, among other authorities.
Grande-Marlaska recalled that investment in security serves “to guarantee the present and future of Spanish society, fight against threats and protect our fundamental freedoms, promote the growth and progress of our society, strengthen the confidence of the citizens in their democratic institutions and, ultimately, to build a fairer society.”
The minister thanked the municipal corporation for the help provided so that this police station “is finally a reality” a work that, in addition, is set in motion for a year as special as the Bicentenary of the National Police. Grande-Marlaska has also thanked all the people of Calatayud for dedicating a place to the National Police in recognition of the service provided by their agents.
For his part, to the agents who serve in this police station, the minister has told them that they are “the soul of a modern, effective, egalitarian institution, loved and valued by society that has made professionalism the cornerstone of its work and that aspires to continue advancing always with citizenship at the epicentre of all its actions.”
SUSTAINABILITY, ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND SECURITY
The new Calatayud Police Station stands on a plot of 2,887 m2 on Manuela Sancho Street in the town of Bilbao and the works have had a total cost of 2,560,795 euros.
This new infrastructure has been built following parameters of sustainability, energy efficiency and safety, which translates into modern, safe and environmentally friendly facilities, in which both the working conditions of officials and accessibility and attention to citizens are significantly improved.
The Police Station is staffed with 79 police officers, as well as six general corps employees and two staff members. Functionally, it is divided into the area of Citizen Security, Local Operative Group and DNI. The Local Operational Group includes the Judicial, Scientific, Alien and Documentary Police and the Office of Complaints and Citizen Assistance (ODAC).
