The Christmas period between Friday, December 22, 2023 and Sunday, January 7, 2024, corresponds to unique dates within the winter months, which will cause an increase in the number of road trips motivated by coincidence in this time space of the Christmas Holidays, family celebrations and school and university holidays.
All this will generate a series of short and long-distance vehicle movements, especially on weekends and holidays, with main destinations:
• Places of second residence.
• Areas or areas of large shopping centers.
• Mountain areas for the practice of winter sports.
• Areas of winter tourist attraction.
For all of these reasons, the Directorate General of Traffic launches a Special Mechanism for Traffic Regulation, Management and Surveillance Measures called Traffic Operation “Christmas 2023 - 2024”, which will take place in 3 phases coinciding with the festivities of these dates: from 15 hours on Friday, December 22, 2023 to 24 hours on Sunday, January 7, 2024
• 1st CHRISTMAS phase: from Friday 22nd to Monday 25th December 2023. In Aragon, 430,000 displacements are planned.
⦅⦆ 2nd END OF YEAR phase: from Friday 29th December 2023 to Monday 1st January 2024. In Aragon, 400,000 trips are planned.
⦅⦆ 3rd phase REYES: end of Operation Christmas, from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th January 2024. In Aragon, 240,000 displacements are planned.
This Special Traffic Device will cover the large number of journeys that will take place during these days, counting on the maximum availability of its human resources, with a view to facilitating mobility and fluidity on the roads where vehicle movements are planned and ensuring its Road Safety.
They will participate in the control and regulation device of this Traffic Operation, as regards the territorial scope of this Autonomous Community:
▪ all available personnel of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, Sector of Aragon,
▪ the officials and specialized technical staff of the Traffic Management Centre, Zaragoza.
⦅⦆ the Helicopter Patrol of the General Directorate of Traffic, based in Zaragoza, and traffic surveillance mission and coverage throughout Aragón, La Rioja and Navarra.
▪ and the personnel responsible for the maintenance of equipment and the installation of measures on the road.
CIRCULATION FORECASTS
During all the days of the Traffic Operation “Christmas 2023-2024”, one million seven hundred thousand vehicle displacements are expected on the roads of the Autonomous Community of Aragon.
