In Aragón, there are currently 2,152 women with active monitoring of the VioGén system, which is divided into 1,514 in the province of Zaragoza; 437 in the province of Huesca and 201 in the province of Teruel. In addition, as far as Atenpro (Telephone Service for Care and Protection for Victims of Gender Violence, mobile devices for those affected) is concerned, 135 cases are active in the community. It should also be noted that there are 111 devices in operation for telematic control of measures and penalties of distancing (COMETA).
Last March, a 39-year-old woman was murdered in Villanueva de Gállego by her ex-partner. She became the 33rd mortal victim in Aragon since there are records and, this morning, representatives of the Government Delegation and the three Subdelegations, as well as workers and members of other Aragonese institutions, have observed a minute of silence in memory of all the victims.
After reading an institutional statement, the government delegate, Fernando Beltrán, said in Zaragoza that it is “vital to unite all institutions and the whole of society to fight against those who carry out violence and also to minimize the impact that these aggressions cause on women.” Beltrán has been accompanied, among others, by the subdelegate in Zaragoza, Jorge Pastor.
“Despite the figures, which are still high, there are still voices that deny this type of violence, that minimize or even whitewash it and that is why we continue to work in the effort to incorporate local police into the protection system to reinforce the work of the National Police and the Civil Guard in all corners of Aragón,” explained Beltrán. Specifically, there are currently 16 municipalities in Aragón adhering to the Viogén system: Huesca, Jaca, Calatayud, Alcañiz, Pinseque, Binéfar, Pedrola, Utebo, Cuarte, Zuera, Tarazona, Tauste, Barbastro, Caspe, La Almunia and Fraga.
In Huesca, the concentration of rejection of gender violence has been presided over by the subdelegate Carlos Campo, together with the mayor Lorena Orduna and members of the Provincial Council. In Teruel, it was done by the subdelegate José Ramón Morro together with the mayor Emma Buj. The three minutes of silence have also been joined by representatives of the National Police, Civil Guard and the Army.
Aragón will open the three 24-hour centres in Zaragoza, Huesca and Teruel next year to care for victims of sexual violence after the Ministry of Equality accepted during this Monday’s Sectoral Conference to extend the execution period until December 31, 2024. Thus, the Community has one more year to implement this project that comes from the previous Executive and for which it receives 2.56 million euros of European funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
On November 29, the Meninas Awards will be presented to the Delegation of the Government of Aragón, paying a well-deserved tribute to the people, associations and institutions that work every day in Aragón to protect women and repair the wounds of abuse.
“The fight against male violence is at the heart of our democracy, and it is from this commitment to human rights and fundamental freedoms that the Government wants to send a message of recognition and tribute once again to all the women, girls and children victims of male violence, to those who are no longer there, to their families, and to all the survivors,” said the Delegate and the Subdelegates in their speeches.
Resources against violence against women
In addition to telephone and online 016, other channels are established such as email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, and people with hearing disabilities can access it through a text phone 900116016 or on the teller website. A special button has also been included in the ALERTCOPS app that allows women to send an alert signal with location, which facilitates faster intervention by state security forces and bodies if necessary.
