Aragonese exports reached 5,513.4 million euros until April 30, which means an increase of 4.7% compared to the same period of the previous year. The report, prepared by the Territorial Directorate of Trade-ICEX in Aragon of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, with data provided by the Customs Department of the AEAT, also shows that total imports from the community amounted to 6,191.3 million euros in that period, amounting to 38.6% compared to 2022.
The main export sectors that have contributed to this increase have been the automotive, food, beverage and tobacco sectors, capital goods and durable consumer goods. The negative contributions came from the non-chemical semimanuinvoices sector, consumer manufactures and chemicals. The main importing sectors by positive contribution were automotive, capital goods, food, beverages and tobacco and durable consumer goods. The main negative contributions came from the consumer manufacturing, chemicals and raw materials sector.
The European Union remains the main destination for Aragonese exports, accounting for 69.3% of the total in the January-April period, increasing 12.7% compared to the previous year. Of the main partners, the cumulative increases to Italy (22%), France (6.9%), Germany (5.6%) and Portugal (4.3%) stand out. Exports to third countries accounted for 30.7%, although they fell by 9.8% year-on-year, highlighting the decline in sales to all regions. By country, the increases to Morocco (37.1%), Argentina (34.6%) or Nigeria (28.3%) among others can be highlighted in this period.
Exports and imports in the month of April
In April, sales outside the Community stood at 1,190.8 million euros, which means a decrease of 8.3% in year-on-year sales and 23.8% compared to March. For its part, imports in April reached 1,463.2 million euros, amounting to 33.4% compared to the previous year and fell by 23.1% on a month-on-month basis.
However, the commercial balance in this period has a deficit of 272.4 million euros. The coverage rate stands at 81.4%. Aragonese exports accounted for 4.1% of total Spanish exports in the month of April 2023.
The main export sectors in Aragon were food, beverages and tobacco and energy products. The sectors that contributed negatively were the consumer manufacturing sector, non-chemical semi-enterprises, chemicals and the automobile sector. In terms of imports, the sectors that contributed positively were mainly the automobile sector, equipment, food, beverages and tobacco and non-chemical semi-manufactures. The largest negative contributions were from the chemical, consumer manufacturing and other commodity sectors.
The European Union remains the main destination for Aragonese exports, representing 67.3% of the total, decreasing by 3.8% compared to the previous year. Of the main partners, the increases in sales to Portugal (10%) and Italy (2.7%) stand out. Exports to third countries account for 32.7% of the total, decreasing to all regions. Among other countries, the increases to Saudi Arabia (39.7%), Morocco (30.1%) or Australia (24.5%) can be noted positively.
