The Cavalry Squadron of the Civil Guard already monitors the rural environment in the different municipalities of the region of Valdejalón. The objective of this deployment is to strengthen security in the agricultural environment and complement the work of the citizen security forces that are responsible for the usual surveillance.
The use of these units has proven very effective in providing a higher view of the terrain and, in addition, offers the possibility of patrolling in places that conventional vehicles do not have access to. In addition, and permanently, they have the support of a drone to ensure aerial surveillance of large areas of cultivation.
The Government Delegation in Aragon is promoting different mechanisms to prevent and act against theft and theft of agricultural material. In addition to the activation of this squadron, the presence of agents in the other areas affected by rural crime in the province of Zaragoza has increased with the mobilization of GRS teams (Reserve and Security Group), the reserve nucleus and with the Citizen Security Units (USECIC), as well as with the activation of ROCA teams specialized in this type of criminal cases.
In order to ensure collaboration and detect criminal activity, the Government Delegation in Aragon and the Subdelegations are not only coordinating this entire mechanism to strengthen resources with the Civil Guard, but also insisting on the need to file a complaint in all cases, even if it is a case of theft or theft of little economic importance. This is because the absence of a complaint favors the impunity of the offender and the reiteration of this type of crime.
It has also been recalled that if suspicious or transit movements of foreign people are observed in areas close to the properties, farmers and ranchers can contact the Civil Guard through telephone 062, a more effective method than direct communication with the barracks, since from there all calls are centralized and immediately diverted to the nearest patrol.
Effective units in rural areas
Horse patrol services in the countryside have already been carried out for several years in rural areas, considering that they are especially suitable for surveillance and control tasks in agricultural environments.
The Civil Guard Cavalry Squadron is a specialized horseback unit created in 1958. Its headquarters are located in the College of Young Guards of Valdemoro (Madrid). The horses come from the military horse breeding herd, which belongs to the Ministry of Defense.
