The Delegation of the Government of Spain in Andalusia holds this online face-to-face meeting on November 10 to analyze current public policies and their effectiveness in eradicating male violence
The Delegation of the Government of Spain in Andalusia will celebrate on November 10 in Seville the International Day ‘Public Policies against Gender Violence: A social need, a human right’, where Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights; Bibiana Aido, representative of UN Women in Ecuador, and Iratxe García Pérez, Spanish MEP and president of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament will lead the panel of international experts of the meeting.
In this first edition, which will be held in the General Captaincy’s assembly hall, the objective will be to evaluate current public policies, their degree of effectiveness, their stability and permanence over time and possible directions of improvement for greater protection of women victims and their sons and daughters.
Likewise, this meeting point will serve to analyze the public policies, both of administrations and public, international, national and local agencies in the fight and eradication of violence against women as a demand for respect for the human rights of half of the world’s population.
Aimed at technical professionals in the public administrations in matters of gender, State Security Forces and Bodies, personnel of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, entities and platforms of women, students and population in general, the International Day will be face-to-face, although it can also be followed online live through the YouTube channel of the Delegation of the Government of Spain in Andalusia.
The delegate of the Government of Spain in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, will be in charge of welcoming this meeting at the opening of the Conference, at 9:30 am, giving way to the first round table of feminist organizations, in which, moderated by Miguel Lorente, former delegate of the Government against Gender Violence, will participate the president of the Federation of Progressive Women of Spain, Yolanda Besteiro; the vice-president Association of Women Jurist Themis, Altamira Gonzalo Valgañón; and Carmen Torres, of Feminists in Network.
At 12:30 hours it will be the turn of the local governments, a panel in which the mayor of Jerez de la Frontera, Mamen Sánchez, the mayor of Seville, Juan Espadas, and the president of the Barcelona Provincial Council, Nuria Marín, will present their experiences. The deputy mayor of Equality, Education, Citizen Participation and District Coordination of the City of Seville, Adela Castaño, will organize the debate.
Afternoon Day
The next meeting of the attendees – both face-to-face and online – will be, at 4:00 p.m., with gender experts such as Soledad Pérez Rodríguez, a feminist lawyer, and the president of the International Association of Jurists and Forensic Sciences Interiuris, Ángeles Sepúlveda, whose participation will be moderated by the head of the Coordination Unit against Gender Violence of the Delegation of the Government of Spain in Andalusia, Maribel Montaño.
At 5:30 p.m., the panel of international organizations will begin, coordinated by the former delegate of the Government against Gender Violence Rebeca Palomo, and where Michelle Bachelet, Bibiana Aido and Iratxe García Pérez will present their vision on public gender policies outside our borders.
The International Day, which has the collaboration of the Government Delegation against Gender Violence of the Ministry of Equality and the City of Seville, will close at 19:00 hours with the intervention of the Minister of Justice, Pilar Llop.
