Andalusia started 2023 with 1,273 calls to the telephone 016 during January, a figure that represents a growth of 18% compared to the previous month, when 1,044 were registered, according to the statistical report prepared by the Coordination Unit against Gender Violence of the Delegation of the Government of Spain in Andalusia corresponding to January 2023.
The 016 works 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing victims, relatives and the environment of cases of male violence with a telephone service of information, legal advice and immediate psychosocial attention by specialized personnel to all forms of violence against women. This action is also carried out through WhatsApp 600 000 016 and email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es.
In the first 31 days of the year Andalusia has suffered three cases of male violence registered in the Comprehensive Monitoring System of Cases of Gender Violence, VioGén System, date in which 20,700 active cases were counted, “a figure that continues to be exorbitant as unacceptable in a country like ours, advanced, democratic, egalitarian, where any type of violence against women must be identified and condemned to cut a social problem in the bud, a scourge that only takes us back to understanding pre-democratic life”, said the delegate of the Government of Spain in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández.
“The average daily discharge in VioGén in January was 55 cases a day, a reality that calls us all to join forces and keep us alert because these women demand our attention and our action,” said Fernández.
The increase in protection and removal bracelets active by the Gender Violence Courts has also been significant, a total of 1,199 to 31 January, 4.2% more than in December and 37.4% of the national total, which stands at 3,230 devices.
In addition to the control wristbands, victims have other means to report their situation and request help, such as the Atenpro service of care and protection through electronic device with geolocation and emergency button for active user victims that at 31 of e recorded 3,255 actions, 2% more than in December 2022 and 18.9% of the national total (17,172 assists). The rate of active users in Andalusia of this service in January was 878.9 per million women aged 15 or over, being the national average of 816.9.
The VioGén System, launched by the State Secretariat for Security of the Ministry of the Interior in 2007, centralizes and manages all the information derived from the complaints made in cases of gender violence through the State Security Forces and Bodies, both the National Police and the Civil Guard, and also includes some Local Police Forces of municipalities that have signed the collaboration agreements with the Ministry of the Interior.
In Andalusia there are already 240 municipalities that are part of the VioGén System, 30.57% of the 787 that make up the community and 35% of the national total in the System, which amounts to 684.
The statistic prepared by the Government Delegation for Gender Violence, under the Secretary of State for Equality, aims to have a knowledge of the evolution of gender violence in the community and determine the most effective practices in its prevention, as well as to integrate and coordinate all users to reduce cases.
