Sabrido praises the collaboration between administrations when fighting the Forest Fire of La Mierla (Guadalajara)

Tamajón (Guadalajara).- The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, José Pablo Sabrido, has visited the Advanced Command Post of the Forest Fire of La Mierla, in Guadalajara, to know the current situation at first hand.

There he wanted to praise the collaboration and coordination between administrations to fight from the first moment against what is already the forest fire that has burned more hectares in the history of Castilla-La Mancha, since “at this moment the fundamental thing is to put out the fire”.

In this regard, the government delegate thanked the authorities in charge of the fire, especially the Civil Guard, “who will also have to control the access of services that the animals may need so that they do not have any problems or at least they can subsist”.

Due to the severity of the fire, there are a total of 30 municipalities evacuated after adding to the town of Alpedroches after the celebration of the last CECOPI. They are: La Mierla, Muriel, Camp Umbralejo, Almiruete, Los Palancares, Seeds, La Nava de Jadraque, Arroyo de Fraguas, Las Navas de Jadraque, Zarzuela de Jadraque, El Ordial, Monasterio, Bustares, Villares de Jadraque, Veguillas, Gascueñas de Bornova, Robledo de Corpes, Aldeanueva de Atienza, Prádenas de Hilaura

In addition to 11 confined municipalities, which are Albendiego, Ujados, Cañamares, Tordelloso and La Miñosa, to which must be added after the celebration of the last CECOPI to the towns of Hijes, Miedes de Atienza, Casillas, Bochones, Romanillos de Atienza and Bañuelos de Atienza.

In total, there are more than 27,000 burned hectares and more than 1,200 people affected by evacuation or confinement of their municipalities. In light of this, and taking into account the unfavorable weather conditions, Sabrido has valued the work of the extinction teams, which “are doing a commendable job and which we hope will soon be in some way perimetric and controlled.”

The government delegate has been accompanied by the Secretary General of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior, Virginia Barcones, the subdelegate of the Government in the province, Susana Cabellos, the interim chief colonel of the second zone of the Civil Guard, Jesús Manuel Rodrigo, or the deputy minister of the Environment, José Almodóvar, among other authorities.

After the last update, in the work of extinguishing the forest fire there are more than 600 troops of the Government of Spain, in addition to 109 vehicles, 18 air mediums and four helitransport brigades. To all this must be added the activation of the ‘Copernicus’ system, “the satellite of the European Union, which has already made a first pass this morning and we can have, from tomorrow, the first precision images through the satellite of the European Union”, as announced by the Secretary General of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior, Virginia Barcones.

The general secretary explained that the virulence of the fire and the weather conditions limit the chances of extinguishing the fire: “They don’t give it a chance. All we can do is defend ourselves, wait for that opportunity to attack the fire.”

Barcones pointed out that “however many means can be made available at times, these fires to which we are being subjected with the climate emergency are not capable of extinction”.

Along with this, he has praised the management of the emergency by the administrations since, despite being the fire that has burned more hectares in the history of Castilla-La Mancha, “there is no need to regret personal damage”: “This is the first thing, the raison d’être of civil protection and emergencies”.
