Adif has contracted, for 7.4 million euros, the renewal of the track in points of the stretch between Castejón de Ebro and Fuenmayor (80.3km), of the conventional railway line that connects Navarra and La Rioja, to reinforce its capacity and reliability.
The performance includes the assembly of 10,260 new and higher performance sleepers at different points of this single-track route that, together, add up to 6.2 km. Also the laying of new lane in points that, added together both threads of the track, represent 135 km.
In addition, electrification, signaling and communications facilities will be adapted, and reinforcements and improvements will be made at different points of the track infrastructure, such as drains.
In this way, Adif has already awarded the works to modernize a conventional network route as it passes through Navarre and La Rioja of 155 km, which is part of the line connecting the Atlantic and Mediterranean Corridors, which will strengthen its reliability and ability to respond to the increase in traffic flows of passengers and goods.
This action is in addition to those recently contracted to carry out similar works in the route between Cortes de Navarra and Castejón de Ebro (39.6km), for 8.5 million, and in the route between Castejón and Tafalla (34.9km), for another 7.2 million. It is also awarded, for 10.7 million euros, the supply of the new sleepers for these three railway routes; the ballast is awarded 2.2 million euros and the tender is finalized to tender the rail route.
Adif will face the challenge of making the works compatible with the railway service: they will be scheduled at night, in the so-called maintenance band (morning hours without commercial service).
Conventional network modernization and high speed boost
This action is in addition to those that Adif has in place to modernize the conventional network and promote the development of the high-speed network.
In Navarre, on the Castejón-Alsasua line, Adif recently awarded the extension to 750m of the sideways of the Caparroso, Carrascal and Uharte-Arakil stations, to be able to park trains of that length and promote the transport of goods.
In terms of passenger traffic, this conventional line will be the one that will connect with the layout of the new high-speed line of Navarre that is currently being built, to start it once it is finished, through a link in Castejón, from which the drafting of the project has just been contracted.
In La Rioja, Adif is promoting the construction of the Rincon de Soto Variant (9.3 km) while tendering the drafting of the project to renew the Castejón-Logroño railway route (70.5 km) to expand its capacity and allow an increase in circulation speeds. In addition, it has in tender, for 23.4 million euros, the renewal of the electrification of the section connecting Logroño with Miranda de Ebro (Burgos), of 68.5 km, to improve its reliability and capacity.
These actions contribute to the achievement of SDGs number 9 (promotion of reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructures), 7 (sustainability) and 8 (economic growth and promotion of employment.
