The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, praised on Monday the effort of the Government of Spain to safeguard beekeeping, declared by the Council of Ministers as a Representative Manifestation of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. He did so during a visit to the honey production facilities of the company Manufactura Partner, S.L., in the Serra da Enciña da Lastra Natural Park, in Rubiá.
After seeing the facilities, the deputy government delegate congratulated the owners of the company, Antonia Franco and Jens Kleinwächter, for their "excellent products" of the O Marquesado brand and for their "commitment to a sustainable production model". "This is a clear example of how tradition, sustainability and entrepreneurship can go hand in hand," he said.
Santos explained that the Council of Ministers recently declared beekeeping as a Representative Manifestation of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Spain. This decision aims to "contribute to the safeguarding, knowledge and continuity of an ancestral practice, deeply rooted in our identity and which, in addition, contributes enormous benefits to the ecosystem."
In this sense, he indicated that beekeeping represents "values of effort, respect for the environment and connection with the land". "However, it is also an activity that faces serious challenges, especially those arising from climate change, which threaten both bees and biodiversity in general," added the deputy delegate.
For this reason, he reiterated his congratulations to the workers of this company that has valued the mountains since 1896 and stressed the "commitment of the Government of Spain with this practice so deeply rooted in the territory and respectful of its environment".
