The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, accompanied by the Provincial Director of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD), Elena Fernández Treviño, has highlighted two significant advances with which the academic year 2025-2026 begins in Melilla: the granting of three days of own affairs for teachers and the implementation of the Territorial Cooperation Programs (PCT) of reinforcement in Language and Mathematics.
In relation to the three days of own affairs, the Delegate recalled that this achievement responds to a commitment made by the Ministry of Education after listening to the historical demands of the teaching community. “This was precisely one of the agreements reached and it is what we have been working on during this time. It is further proof of the active listening that this government has with all parties,” he said.
For her part, the Provincial Director has detailed that this agreement was concluded at the Union Working Table, with the presence of the Secretary of State and the Education Officers of Ceuta and Melilla. “The agreement that has just been reached with the three days of our own affairs is a success too, and the teachers receive it with great joy. I think they are very important news,” he said.
Educational reinforcement
The Government Delegate has also highlighted the implementation of the Territorial Cooperation Programs, announced by the President of the Government in 2024, which will strengthen mathematical competence and reading comprehension and through which 29 more teachers will be incorporated.
“I would like to mention the reinforcement in Language and Mathematics announced by the President of the Government and which will also be carried out in our city with a staff of 29 teachers. Almost 30 teachers who join to give this attention, this reinforcement in Language and Mathematics. A very important plan for our city,” he said.
Along the same lines, Fernández Treviño explained that these programs “begin for the first time in this course” with the hiring of 29 new teachers, and that they will allow the introduction of innovative methodologies such as co-teaching.
“They are going to work in two ways: increasing teaching capacity and improving academic results, and also allowing new ways of working in the classrooms. This greatly facilitates reinforcement and educational attention. In short, not only do we improve the ratio compared to years ago, but we also implement programs that help to serve students in a more individualized way,” he said.
The Territorial Cooperation Program (PCT) to strengthen mathematical competence and reading comprehension is an initiative of the Government of Spain, through the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, to improve the performance of students of Primary Education, ESO and Basic VET in these key areas.
