In the process of staff stabilization this year, of the 57 places that fall in the Imserso de Melilla, 54 correspond to professionals of the Polyvalent Center for Elderly People, better known as the Nursing Home.
This was announced this morning by the Territorial Director of Imserso, Verónica Aznar, in an interview granted to Onda Cero, in which she also explained that from April they will have a quota of workers for the coverage of those positions that the Administration takes longer to cover, as may be the case of retirements, so that the coverage of that place will be allowed in an agile way.
“Before that quota was managed from the Residence, now it is going to be managed from the Provincial Directorate to cover all the services of the Imserso”, he explained, but not only that, a new circular has been developed that allows to cover the casualties per quota.
“The contracts that were being offered per quota, given the fear that there would be a loss and it could not be covered, were for a month, when the quota can reach up to 6 months and we would waste a quota, giving it for a month, with the fear that they would be discharged and will remain unused service,” he said.
However, with the new circular approved and sent by the General Directorate, “it is covered at the moment, which gives us a guarantee of pulling quotas with greater stability,” he has added. In fact, he explained that the new contracts that have been made for the reinforcement of Christmas “have been called to the staff to extend the time”.
Something that, in the words of Verónica Aznar, is an important advance because, the decrease in the fluctuation of workers, results in the commitment and involvement of the worker and in the treatment of the resident. “Greater stability translates into greater knowledge and closeness with residents,” he said.
The Territorial Director of the Imserso recalled that, when the Residence was opened, there were 92 auxiliaries for 160 residents, while now there are 75 auxiliaries for 100 residents.
However, he has made it clear that “I defend and understand the workers of the Residence, because the profile of our residents is very dependent and because they do not conform and want to always give the best, and that entails significant physical and emotional wear and tear”.
For this reason, he has reported the creation of an Evaluation Committee to see which staff is needed, given that, although the ratio of professionals to residents is well in compliance with the regulations, “the profile of residents is very dependent, so I will insist and demand a greater presence of professionals in the centers.”
Infrastructure improvement
During the radio interview, the head of the Imserso in our city explained that a few weeks ago there was the visit of the Head of Architects of Central Services of Madrid together with 2 decorators to all the centers of the Imserso of Melilla to see the conditions in which they are and to make an evaluation, in view of the future investments that are going to be produced these years.
“As a result of that visit, a work plan is marked where it details things that the center must tackle and things that, because they are larger, must be tackled from the Central Services,” he explained.
“Everything we have been asked to do, which had to be done by the centres, has already been done,” he said, referring to the technical report detailing how the Residence building is in terms of maintenance and infrastructure, or the 3 offers requested to repair the crack in the entrance porch due to the earthquake in the city, among others.
With regard to air conditioning, he explained that it is in a precarious situation resulting from an air conduction problem. “An HVAC company has already come to analyze and see what possibilities they offer us”, he clarified and has advanced that they already have a justifying memory and a study of the current situation, along with a proposal to tackle this problem.
A proposal that is already in the hands of the Central Services of the Imserso and that would involve an investment of more than 1 million euros. “I’m pushing for it as quickly as possible, but it requires an important piece of work that needs to be tackled in phases,” he said.
“All administrative processes are done and elevated and we are going to start a study within the Residence of the transfer of residents from one area to another of the same, always avoiding that it represents a harm for the resident, something that has already been communicated to the relatives,” he said.
New care model
In another order of things, Aznar has referred to the need to implement a new assistance model. “The Covid pandemic has led to the choice to change the model of residences and move from macro-residences to closer residences focused on more personal attention with the resident through coexistence units,” he said.
“It is about the possibility that, within the possibilities that the center has, the resident can make decisions, and that the type of assistance is more personalized,” he said.
In this regard, he has announced that on the 21st of this month, the training of the staff of the motor group for the new model begins “to start working block by block and always starting from the identity and peculiarity of Melilla”.
“The new model starts with Melilla, taking into account our reality. We are going to integrate the new model within the Residence by the motor group, which is going to develop it with the advice of a consultancy in Madrid,” he said.
