The Ministry of Culture and Sport, through the General Directorate of Books and Promotion of Reading, launches until May 15 a new edition of the programme of literary activities in Secondary Education Institutes spread across Spain and Morocco, which is part of the Reading Promotion Plan 2021-2024.
Of the total of 275 activities of the reading animation program, which already has more than two decades of existence, a total of three have been selected in La Rioja.
It should be noted that, among the projects that will be held in La Rioja, one will be led by a woman and two by men. And, as for the literary genres they will cover, they are essay, narrative and illustration:
- March 22nd. IES Valle del Cidacos in Calsalvo. Author: Sergio Mora Cirujeda. Illustration.
- March 30th. IES Inventor Cosme García in Logroño. Author: Isabel Lizarraga Vizcarra. Narrative.
- April 21st. IES Celso Díaz in Arnedo. Author: Emilio Río Sanz. Essay.
The aim of this initiative is to bring young people closer to quality reading and, at the same time, contribute to spreading the work and creative activity of our authors. Students have the opportunity to get to know the work of narrators, poets, playwrights, illustrators or translators, and these, take the pulse of the interests of young readers.
Activities spread throughout the Spanish geography
In Andalusia there will be 81 literary activities, 10 in Aragon, 7 in Asturias, 4 in the Canary Islands, 5 in Cantabria, 20 in Castilla-La Mancha, 33 in Castilla y León, 6 in Catalonia, 1 in Ceuta, 20 in Extremadura, 18 in Galicia, 3 in La Rioja, 38 in the Community of Madrid, 10 in Murcia, 2 in Navarra, 15 in the Valencian Community and 2 in Morocco.
Among the authors who will hold meetings with the students of these Secondary Schools are Care Santos, Marta Sanz, Ledicia Costas, Isaac Rosa, Julio Llamazares, Edurne Portela, Pilar Adón or Ángela Segovia.
‘Literary Encounters’ and ‘Why Read the Classics’
The program, which will be developed in two modalities, face-to-face and telematic, has two different types of activities. On the one hand, the ‘Literary Encounters’, where the author, proposed by the center, will talk about his work and his creative process, maintaining an open dialogue with the students. On the other hand, ‘Why Read the Classics’, where the authors focus on the activity programmed in the work or the figure of an author whose transcendence goes beyond a specific historical period or literary current.
