The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, put Galmesán as an example of the opportunities offered by the Galician rural to generate economic activity without renouncing tradition. He did so this Wednesday during a visit to the company’s facilities in which he was accompanied by its manager, Carmela Cañería, the mayor of Arzúa, Xesús Carriles, and the councilor for Tourism and Economic Promotion, Begoña Balado.
María Rivas, who took the opportunity to congratulate the company for the award as the best cured cow cheese in Spain in Gourmets 2025, which adds to the already extensive list of recognitions nationally and worldwide to its good work, highlighted “the impressive trajectory of this family company, which still does not have 10 years of life and which, on the contrary, is already known in more than half of the world”.
The subdelegate highlighted the firm’s commitment “to make quality food without renouncing its origins and putting value on tradition”, as well as to make a differentiated product from Arzúa, the cheese capital of Galicia.
“We, as a government, share with Galmesán the philosophy that we can promote the economic development of Galicia from the rural and distinguish ourselves with quality food,” said Rivas, who said that talking about tradition “is not giving up innovation.”
“Galmesan was committed to doing something different and attractive, and I know that it has the support of the prestigious chef Lucía Freitas to continue researching new products with which to reduce its ecological footprint, which is another of its signs of identity,” said the deputy delegate.
In this regard, he reiterated his congratulations to the company “for its excellent work and for that commitment to the quality of raw materials, for respect for the product and also for the natural environment”. “Producers like you are the ones who make Spain the richest country in the world, of which we will never tire of boasting,” he concluded.
