The deputy delegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, highlighted this morning the commitment of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility for the integral renovation of the Ourprague-Monforte-Lugo section, “an unprecedented investment of the Government in the province of Lugo in the railway field.” In particular, he presented with the mayor, José Tomé Roca, and the deputy director general of Adif, Roberto Muela, the project that will allow the suppression of two steps at the level in the urban center of Monforte de Lemos with an investment of 7 million euros.
No act of presentation of the work, which will begin at the beginning of September, explained that the steps at the level of Río Seco and Juan Montes will be eliminated, improving the permeability of the line and increasing the safety conditions for the circulation of vehicles, trains and pawns.
The subdelegate added value “to the capacity of this Government to carry out projects that are improving the municipalities of the province, gaining mobility and allocating public resources to the connection of Lugo with high speed”. In addition, he said that “this is a very important project within the 550 million euros for the renewal of the railway section between Ourense and Lugo, which will revitalize the area of the Monforte station increasing security and improving infrastructure”.
In this regard, he thanked the mayor for his work “and his management in recent years to make this action a reality today”, defending “the collaboration between administrations to improve people’s lives”.
New configuration
The project includes the construction of two new roads: an east-west, between Juan Montes and Río Seco streets, and another north-south, which will join @dito streets. The lower pass will have a vial of lateral roadways on the surface to give continuity to the sides of Padre Feijóo Street, parallel to the railway.
The connection of the new east-west axis with Calle Morín will be forked to also connect with Calle Juan Montes, in order to decongest this intersection with Calle Ramón Cabanilles and so that the movements coming from Calle Tren do not need to access the Morín to cross the lower pass. The new vials are proposed bidirecais, with sidewalks on both margins, except the lateral roadways of the passage that will be unidirecais.
The works are framed in the renovation actions of the 117 km of the Ourense–Monforte section of Lemos–Lugo, which connects in Ourense with the high-speed corridor to Galicia, improving its parameters of reliability, comfort and travel times. The works will be executed by the UTE integrated by Civis Global and Extraco.
These actions contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 (Health and Welfare), 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
