The Export Unit of Castilla y León issues more than 12,300 certificates of products of animal origin per year
36% increase compared to 2019
April 12, 2024. The livestock diversity of Castilla y León added to the significant number of farms, as well as the more than 800 meat industries settled in the territory place the Community as a national benchmark in the production of meat and derived products.
A potential that translates into a claim inside and outside of Spain. What is more, agri-food is, behind the automobile, the sector that moves the most in export figures in Castilla y León, with an upward trend in the last year and a predominance of meat and dairy products.
Precisely, exports of products of animal origin to third countries require the issuance of a veterinary certificate that guarantees compliance with the different public health parameters of each of the countries. A certificate from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food issued in Castilla y León by the dozen Animal Health inspectors that the Government Delegation in Castilla y León has distributed in the six Veterinary Inspection Services (SIVF) -Burgos, León, Salamanca, Segovia, Valladolid and Zamora-.
The Export Unit of Castilla y León has experienced in the last five years a sustained increase in the number of dossiers issued, until the end of 2023 with a total of 12,355, compared to the 9,079 that were issued in 2019, with a peak in 2021, when the 14,000 certificates were exceeded after the most restrictive stage of the Covid-19 pandemic, 36% more.
More than 72% of the certificates issued (8,949) were for the export of products of animal origin intended for human consumption (meat, dairy, egg products…). Secondly, there are products not intended for consumption, such as fur, wool, animal feed or veterinary medicines and animal health products, which reached 2,536 (20.5%), and which registered a slight increase compared to the previous year, as well as exports of live animals (639) and pet animals without commercial purposes (231).
PROVINCIAL DATA
By area, the Border Veterinary Inspection Service (SIVF) of Burgos, which brings together the certification also of the provinces of Palencia and Soria, was the one that issued the highest number of certificates, reaching 3,136, that is, 25% of the total. Specifically, 79 companies requested export certificates, mainly for meat products, highlighting Campofrio, which accounted for 28% of processed exports.
Behind it is the area of León, with a total of 2,437 certificates issued (19.7%) for 99 applicants, of which 65% were for the export of meat products, highlighting the company Encased Rodriguez, which represents half of the certificates issued in the province.
In Salamanca, 116 companies requested a total of 2,375 certificates, of which more than 90% were for meat products, Guijuelo and its surroundings being the area of the province with the greatest export movement. For its part, in Segovia, 735 export certificates were signed, requested by 25 companies, with animal feed accounting for 42% of the signed dossiers.
The inspection area of Valladolid, which also issues certificates for Ávila, added 2,247 export files aimed at the 115 applicant companies, with ‘Mars Multisales Spain’, based in the province of Ávila, as the company with the highest export volume.
Finally, 1,338 dossiers were issued in Zamora, which marks an upward trend in the last five years, given that in 2019 it closed with 600 certificates, highlighting the export of dairy products, which represent 78% of the total, with Quesos El Pastor as the first in volume of exports (43%).
