Mitma cites for more than 7 million euros the rehabilitation of the Martín Gil viaduct on the Ricobayo reservoir in Zamora
Conservation of an emblematic railway infrastructure
Zamora, April 27.- The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) is going to rehabilitate the Martín Gil viaduct on the Ricobayo reservoir, located between the Zamora and Carbajales stations, on the conventional wide railway line Zamora-A Coruña.
The action, which will be carried out through Adif, has a tender budget of 7.1 million euros (VAT included) and will contribute to the conservation and durability of the structure and its elements in the long term. This will also increase the reliability of rail traffic as it passes through this infrastructure.
The Martín Gil viaduct saves the Ricobayo Reservoir (River Esla) and, at the time of its construction, between the years 1930 and 1940, it was the largest concrete arch in the world. It has a free light of 192.40 m, a theoretical light of 209.8 m and an arrow of 63 m. Its length is 481 m and it was a great constructive challenge due to the abrupt orography of the area and the light that saves.
Main actions
Among the actions to be developed in this rehabilitation, the following stand out:
- Lifting of the track and rail for waterproofing the panel, including the gutters and the vertical walls of the walls;
- Arrangement of metal sheets covering gaskets for the exit of the water accumulated on the platform and execution of drains every meter;
- Healing of metal profiles and application of corrosion inhibitor on the reinforced concrete surface of the structure;
- Replacement of seats or masks;
- Removal of vegetation and general cleaning of the walls of the structure with pressurized water jet.
This action contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 9, especially its goals 9.1 (to develop reliable infrastructure) and 9.4 (to modernise infrastructure).
