The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, today opened the Healthy Eating Congress, an event that brings together representatives of the educational community, families and authorities to address the importance of a healthy and balanced diet in the development of children.
At the opening ceremony, held in Torrelavega, the delegate highlighted the fundamental role played by families and educational centers in promoting healthy eating habits. "All of us, families, teachers, students, companies and administrations must work together to optimize resources and develop demands that lead us to obtain quality services so that school canteens are truly healthy," he said.
The delegate has stressed the importance of this type of meeting to share experiences and good practices in school feeding. "I am sure that this Congress will allow you to reflect on one of the most important aspects in the growth of our sons and daughters: food, nutrition and school canteens," he said.
“As parents, we need to have full confidence in the quality of the products our children consume, the balance of the menus that are programmed and the professional attention given to children, adolescents and teachers who eat in schools,” added Gómez de Diego, who has praised this initiative that responds to a “real concern” of families and schools.
He also stressed the importance of “reasonably combining food, exercise and sport” to promote the integral well-being of boys and girls, while emphasizing the role that school canteens can play as a “fundamental instrument” to combat malnutrition and obesity in our childhood.
