Adif initiates the construction works of the lower passage between platforms at the Torrelavegas-Tano station to adapt it to the conditions of use derived from the duplication of the railway line.
The action, included in the Proximity Plan of Cantabria, will eliminate the passage between platforms at the same level, improving the safety and transit of travelers through the facilities.
To do this, a lower passage will be built, equipped with stairs and elevators. The passage between platforms 1 and 2 will be about 20 m deep and will be built by means of a pile enclosure, with the subsequent emptying of land and the execution of the upper and lower slab. These actions, which will be addressed in different phases, will require the reordering of the flow of passage through the facilities, guaranteeing the circulation through any of the tracks of the station.
Once the lower step is executed, the pavement, lighting and finishes in the enclosure will be renewed.
Improved connections higher capacity and reliability
The doubling of the track on the Torrelavegas-Santander route on the conventional line between Palencia and the Cantabrian capital, represents a global investment of 138 million euros.
The works are developed in two paths: Muriedas-Santander and Renedo-Guarnizo, where the Torrelavega station is located. The actions will improve the railway connections of Cerca as well as the medium and long distance connections with the plateau. They will also increase the circulation capacity and reliability of the line and promote the efficiency of railway operation and transit, by speeding up the manoeuvres and crossings of the different services, thus also contributing to the reduction of travel times.
Along with the construction of a new track and the adaptation and improvement of lower, upper, bridge and drainage systems, the track duplication project includes the adaptation or renovation of the electrification facilities, including the Sierrapando and Guarnizo electric traction substations.
It also includes actions in the security facilities and the implementation of the Automatic Blockade in Via Banaliza (BAB), which allows the use of both roads in both directions, thus increasing operability and streamlining circulation; as well as its integration in the Centralized Traffic Control (CTC), located in Santander.
These works contribute to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9 (promotion of reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructures); 11 (access to safe, accessible and sustainable transport systems); 8 (contribution to economic growth and employment) and 7 (energy efficiency).
