The government delegate in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones, stressed that the new container terminal “is the definitive step for the modernization and promotion” of the Port of Santander. “It’s a point and a point because, from now on, we are going to have a real port of the 21st century,” he said.
Quiñones pointed this out during his speech this Thursday at the inauguration of the new container terminal of Boluda Corporación Marítima, an event in which, in addition to the president of the company, Vicente Boluda, have been the president of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla; the president of State Ports, Álvaro Rodríguez Dapena; the president of the Port of Santander, Francisco Martín; and the Minister of Industry, Javier López Marcano, among other authorities.
The delegate thanked Boluda “for this fundamental investment that will provide the industrial fabric of Cantabria, our companies, with greater competitiveness in the market and that makes us have today a Port of Santander ready to face the challenges of the future”.
Thus, Quiñones has pointed out that the Port of Santander is undergoing “enormous changes” and is carrying out “an integral transformation thanks to the investments of the Government of Spain, of State Ports and the Port Authority”.
“It is clear what these four years have meant for the Port of Santander and it is clear because we are talking about works executed to make the Port more competitive and global,” he added.
Among the investments made, Quiñones has highlighted the 25 million new access to the Port; the works to extend the length of tracks of the Muriedas terminal; the construction of five apartments on the railway line between Palencia and Santander; or the 22 million euros to develop the logistics center of La Pasiega.
“But we also talk about the nearly 90 million euros in ongoing actions, such as the car silo, worth 41.6 million euros, the renovation of the Maliaño piers for ro-ro ships and a second berthing station on the pier for regular lines of ro-ro oceanic ships,” said the government delegate.
For Quiñones, “we have a Port with an unbeatable geographical position and we only needed ambition on the part of public administrations and institutions, confidence of State Ports and the Government of Spain and the investment support of companies as important as Boluda Corporación Marítima”.
