- 5.6 million euros have been invested in strengthening safety and fluidity and protecting vulnerable users by rearranging the connection and building a separate bike lane.
- A direct link to the motorway has been enabled, a roundabout has been built and the platform widened to deploy a second lane, the bike lane and a medium.
- The project has been funded from the European funds NextGenerationEU, within the framework of the Recovery Plan and is aligned with the National Bicycle Strategy.
May 6, 2025. The Government delegate, accompanied by the head of the State Road Demarcation, Juan Carlos Caballero, inaugurated this morning the works to improve mobility and road safety of the link between the A-7 and the N-344 in the municipality of Murcia
Mariola Guevara explained that, in this way, all the work carried out to strengthen the conditions of circulation, the fluidity of traffic, the safety of vulnerable users who travel by bicycle and energy efficiency are already in service.
In total, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has invested 5.6 million euros (VAT included) to reorder the connection of the current branch of entry to the A-7 from the N-344 road, in the direction of Murcia-Lorca, located at km 575 of the motorway, through a direct link and the construction of a new roundabout, 56 meters in outer diameter, eliminating the access that existed from the current roundabout.
The new direct access branch to the A-7 starts from the N-344 through the new roundabout and includes a direct turn branch that will help to give fluidity to traffic.
On the N-344, the platform has been widened with the construction of a second lane in the direction of Las Torres de Cotillas towards the A-7, a median of one meter and a parallel bike lane separated by a New-Jersey barrier.
Finally, public lighting has been improved with the installation of lampposts equipped with solar panels.
Technical performance characteristics
The main actions contemplated are the following:
● Construction of a branch to join the A-7 and a second lane on the N-344 with a total length of 2.6 km.
● Construction of a gazebo with an outer diameter of 56 meters, 2 lanes and 4.4 meters of lane width.
● Construction of a two-way bike lane of 427 meters in length and 3 meters in width.
● Installation of 73 new LED type luminaires ensuring adequate lighting.
● Extension of 4,700 m3 of plant land, 11,760 m2 of hydroseeding and 124 units of new plantations
This intervention is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), which plans to invest up to 659 million euros (VAT not included) of NextGenerationEU funds in the modernization of more than 80 tunnels, the protection of vulnerable users and fauna, the promotion of sustainability and energy efficiency and the reduction of noise in the State Road Network.
In the same way, the implemented action is aligned with the State Strategy for the Bicycle that aims to promote its use in all its areas: as a means of daily transport, as a tourist activity or as a tool for sport and leisure, always with the aim of moving towards sustainable and active mobility. To achieve this, one of the fundamental aspects is to enable cycling safely, through the construction of infrastructures such as this.
