- The works will be awarded in the next few days and an execution period of nine months is estimated
- “This project will increase the aesthetic potential of this stretch of coastline of undoubted tourist and natural attraction”, said the government delegate
March 27, 2022. The government delegate has announced today an investment of 2.6 million euros for the construction of the El Alamillo promenade, in the Port of Mazarrón, whose works will be awarded in the coming days and whose execution time is estimated to be nine months.
José Vélez, accompanied by the mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Vistas, and the head of the State Coast Demarcation, Daniel Caballero, today presented a project that, according to him, consists of the construction of a pedestrian promenade with six meters of medium width and bidirectional bike lane that covers a length of about 1,280 meters and that will serve as a communication corridor between the current Rihuete promenade and the future viewpoint on the Punta del Alamillo.
“The importance of this stretch lies in that it will allow to expand the area of movement, which currently focuses on the Port of Mazarron promenade, connecting new and existing infrastructures and thus increase the aesthetic and tourist potential of this coastal sector,” said Vélez, who has indicated that the works will be financed with funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government of Spain.
Tourist and natural attractiveness
The government delegate has highlighted the undoubted tourist and natural attraction of this coastal strip, with the presence of beaches in a semi-urban environment. Until a few months ago, the presence of the regional road RM-332 constituted a real artificial barrier that drowned much of the use of this stretch of coastline.
As the displacement of the road route from the beach line has been completed, the consequent release of space on the riverside may allow a revitalization of the area.
To this end, this space will be equipped with a promenade with a marked maritime character, which links it intimately with the coast and the sea, but the affection to the natural dynamics of these elements is avoided, since it will be placed outside the area of the public marine-terrestrial domain and, therefore, removed from the possible erosive processes that endanger the works.
Although the normal width of the pedestrian promenade is six meters, this width varies for the convenience of adjusting the works to the area where they run, or for the creation of overhangs that, like viewpoints, create areas that facilitate the meeting, recreation or rest of the users, without affecting or being affected by the rest of the users.
Ramblas Los Lorentes and Balsicas
The walkways on the streets of Los Lorentes and Balsicas stand out as functional and symbolic elements. The crossing with the Rambla de Los Lorentes has 34 meters of light, which are covered by two wooden walkways, whose ends rest on one side on the stirrups to be made on both margins of the Rambla and by the center on a reinforced concrete structure to be made in the center of the Rambla.
This concrete structure is made in the shape of a boat, taking advantage of the bow and the stern of the boat to make two viewpoints. The 15-metre-light Balsicas Promenade is saved with two completely independent wooden walkways for pedestrians and bicycles.
Due to the lack of walls and the small difference in height between walk and beach, access to it can be done practically at all points. However, four points will be conditioned with ramps and stairs. These four accesses are intentionally made in front of the existing zebra crossings on the road.
The promenade is equipped with public lighting, drinking water, sanitation, rain collection, gardening and irrigation network services. The following elements are distinguished:
- 58 luminaires on a column of 8 meters.
- 112 datile palms.
- 10 aparca-bikes.
- Benches every 30 meters.
- 2 accessible toilet/wardrobe cabins.
- 8 lavapiés.
- 58 trash cans.
In order to achieve greater independence between bike lanes and roads, a variable width strip with native vegetation adapted to the coastal environment will be inserted in most of the route, which together with the datileras palms, will contribute to the landscape improvement of the area.
