The Government authorizes to tender for 17.6 million euros the works of the new station Soto Sur de Cerca Madrid
Development of the Madrid Proximity Plan, in Soto del Real
The Council of Ministers has today authorized the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to tender for an estimated amount of 17.6 million euros (VAT not included), through Adif, the works for the new Soto Sur station of Cerca Madrid, which will service the extension of the C-4b line from Colmenar Viejo to Soto del Real, currently under construction.
The Soto Sur station is one of the main actions of the Madrid Commuter Plan with which, in addition to extending the network to serve more towns in the north of the Community (Miraflores de la Sierra and Guadalix de la Sierra, in addition to Soto del Real), historical railway heritage is recovered for the sustainable mobility of the future.
The contract includes completing the platforms with the installation of canopies and their connection with a lower pass, the construction of a new building for restoration, a parking lot, renovation of the accesses and a bike lane.
Historical heritage station
In addition, it includes the rehabilitation and enhancement of the historic building of the old Soto del Real station, to make it a modern, functional and accessible station. Specifically, thanks to these works, this building, built in 1955 and declared Asset of Patrimonial Interest, will be rehabilitated to recover it as a railway station and, in addition, preserve it and put it in value as a patrimonial asset.
Respecting its original design and elements, its exterior will be restored and the interior will be conditioned: in its 412.7m2, distributed on two floors, will house the lobby and ticket sales area and toilets, among other spaces. It will also enhance its sustainability with solar energy harvesting systems and natural ventilation.
Cafeteria, parking and bike lane
To the north of this historic building will be built a new one, of 155.8m2, intended for restoration; and, to the south, two other small quilts for technical installations.
Likewise, the station’s two platforms will be completed, installing canopies (covering 80m of its 240m) and connecting them with a lower passage equipped with stairs and elevators.
Outside, and to enhance multimodality, the Soto Sur station will have a parking space with capacity for 513 places (16 for people with reduced mobility - PRM). In addition, the interior road access will be renewed, the bike lane will be replaced and space will be available for stopping other modes of transport. The integration of the station into the environment, close to the mountains, with green areas will also be enhanced.
Continuous impetus to the Madrid Proximity Plan
The extension of the C-4b to Soto del Real and its new Soto Sur station is a strategic action of the Commuter Plan within the chapter of the extension of the network to reinforce the possibilities of sustainable mobility in metropolitan routes.
It is added to the duplication of the Pinar section of Las Rozas - Las Matas, currently under way, or the extension to Illescas (Toledo), in the project phase.
Likewise, the new Soto Sur station is added to those that the Ministry promotes, such as that of Tres Cantos Norte (also of the C-4b), Fuencarral-Malmea or Imperial; those that it already builds (Parla Norte or Pinto La Tenería) or remodela (Alcalá de Henares).
Also to the dozens of actions that it promotes in other areas of the Plan, such as the expansion and reinforcement of platforms and space for travelers of Cerca of the two large nodes, Atocha Cerca and Chamartín.
All these actions contribute to SDGs 9 (promoting sustainable, reliable and quality infrastructure), 11 (inclusive and sustainable cities) and 8 (contributing to economic growth and job creation).
European funding
This action may be co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
