After the announcement by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility of a new railway service between Logroño and Madrid, the Government delegate in La Rioja, Beatriz Arraiz Nalda, has said that new possibilities are opening up for our autonomous community in which the connectivity of the region by train is improved.
Arraiz Nalda has specified that Renfe has reorganized railway services with the launch of the new train that will connect Logroño with Madrid by Miranda de Ebro, which will mean twelve new circulations a week, with around 4,000 new places weekly.
Thus, from Monday to Friday, La Rioja will have four trains per day (two per direction), which will double the current offer of two trains per day. This offer allows La Rioja to win two trains during the week, coinciding with the days of greatest demand.
As for the weekend, there will be three daily trains on Saturdays and Sundays, one less than so far. “This reorganization,” explained the delegate, “has taken place to avoid duplication of services and coincidence of trains that would offer the same journey at very close times, but by different route.”
In this regard, he has clarified that, as the new trains have greater capacity, the total offer of places during the weekend is very similar to the current one, while the offer of places from Monday to Friday is much higher than what now exists.
Regarding the connection to Madrid by La Rioja Alta, Arraiz Nalda has pointed out that this new service will improve not only communication with the capital of Spain, but also with the north and west area. Thus, the direct connection with Valladolid and Burgos is recovered and, for the first time, there is a direct connection with Segovia.
In addition, he has highlighted that the train connections of La Rioja Alta are improved. “Until now, Haro only had a daily connection with Miranda de Ebro and Logroño and no direct connection with Madrid. However, you can now travel directly from Haro to Madrid, a very important aspect from the point of view of tourism”.
At the same time, he has clarified that this new service to Madrid by La Rioja Alta also involves improving the connection with Miranda de Ebro, an important railway hub that connects the Basque Country and France, as well as the northwest of Spain.
The delegate commented that with these new frequencies a very important leap is made in the railway connections of La Rioja waiting for the incorporation of new rolling stock on the route from Logroño to Madrid by La Rioja Baja.
Finally, Arraiz Nalda referred to the variant of Rincón de Soto, insisting that “it is already a reality and not just a project the improvement that is being carried out in the railway infrastructures of the autonomous community”.
“It is important to highlight the progress that will be made with this project that is already being implemented and that involves an investment of more than 65 million euros. A project that will improve our connectivity with Zaragoza and Madrid and reduce journey times”, he concluded.
