The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has visited the conditioning works of the N-232 in the Masia section of the Torreta-Morella Sur. These actions together with the already completed conditioning of the Barranco de la Bota-Masia de la Torreta (Puerto de Querol) have involved a total investment of close to 76.5 M€ by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
In this act, the delegate has highlighted “the social relevance of these works”, which improve the last remaining section of the N-232 in the province of Castellón, with an investment for this action of about € 21M. “The Government of Spain,” said Bernabé, “is committed to connecting, uniting and structuring the regions of Els Ports and El Maestrat with the rest of the territory”, by “significantly” improving the conditions of this road. Thanks to the work carried out, the N-232 will be moved “more quickly, more comfort and more security by providing it with better capacity and more functionality”. Bernabé added that the modernization and transformation of the country “must come hand in hand with social and territorial cohesion, prioritizing the development of the interior areas.”
The delegate stressed that the Government of Spain allocates more than €208M to the province of Castellón for road infrastructure. This is “a historical figure” that reflects “the government’s commitment to the province,” he said.
Job Features
The current N-232 road, on which about 3,000 vehicles a day circulate, with 16% of heavy vehicles, in the stretch that covers from the Masia de La Torreta to Morella Sur, is characterized by having a sinuous path both in plan and in elevation, due to the undulating orography of the terrain, modeled by the presence of natural channels such as the Bergantes River.
In addition, except in its final area, it has a narrow cross-section that does not exceed 6 meters in width. This situation causes limitations of visibility and functionality, along with the presence of numerous accesses in the stretch.
Due to the conditions detected, a new route has been designed for a project speed of 80 km/h, with a conventional road section consisting of two lanes of 3.50 meters and arches of 1.50 meters. It seeks, at the same time, the necessary rearrangement of the accesses and provide the required accessibility, making the most of the existing trace to minimize the impact on the environment.
In addition, a total of 6,845 km of additional service roads have been planned to allow access to the adjoining properties. Access to the trunk has also been contemplated by means of speed change lanes in its initial and central zone, and a split roundabout at its final end. This, along with the lower three planned steps, will facilitate accessibility and movement between service roads located on both sides of the road.
The construction of a new bridge over the River Bergantes, with a free width of 22.60 meters between stirrups, has also been planned. The existing bridge and the adjacent stretch of road will be used to access the adjoining estates.
In addition, the project includes the necessary measures of restoration and environmental integration, including the installation of acoustic screens.
