The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has litigated for 6.5 million euros (VAT included) a contract, through Adif, to extend the useful length of the tracks at the logistics terminal of Muriedas, in Cantabria, in line with the conventional Palencia–Santander network.
These works, through which the terminal will be able to accommodate trains of up to 608 meters, will be carried out on the internal tracks of the logistics installation and will be complemented by works of duplication of track between Torrelavega and Guarnizo, which will act on the circulation tracks of the terminal.
In this way, the facilities for the reception and dispatch of freight trains with a more competitive useful length are configured, improving the capacity and efficiency of the operation of the terminal.
The action will promote the rail transport of goods in this line and traffic with the Port of Santander, taking advantage of the synergies between maritime and rail transport and promoting sustainable and competitive mobility in this area.
Detail of the performances at the Muriedas terminal
The Muriedas terminal, located in Camargo, has a 12-way secluded beach (secondary roads linked to the general road, which is used to cross and park trains) and 3 mango roads.
The expansion work will focus on 9 of these roads, in both headwaters, side Santander and side Palencia. The works include all the actions of platform, track and electrification for the extension of the length of the tracks.
To adapt the electrification to the new layout, new foundations and placement of posts will be executed for the replacement of the funicular porticoes by rigid porticoes (metal lintel indeformable to support the catenary) and provide two contact wires to the beach of tracks.
The new laying of ground cable, anchors, and installation of new signage, among other actions, will also be carried out for the improvement and expansion of the current service routes.
The work is part of the agreement signed by Adif, State Ports and the Port Authority of Santander.
European funding
The works to extend the sideways of the logistics terminal of Muriedas will have European funding through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Funded by the European Union NextGeneration EU.
