During the meeting, focused on the presentation of new assistance resources in the north of the island, the role of these devices was highlighted as a response to the psychological impact derived from the volcanic eruption of 2021. The visit included the assistance of the Health Advisor of the Government of the Canary Islands, Esther Monzón, who, together with other authorities in La Palma, experienced first-hand initiatives such as the Day Center and the Night Unit of San Andrés y Sauces, conceived as a pioneering model of community care in mental health.
The joint presence of institutional figures from different areas of competence underlines that the reconstruction of La Palma is not limited to material recovery, but incorporates a key social and health dimension. Thus, the collaboration between the Commissioner and the area of mental health reflects a comprehensive approach that seeks to strengthen the resilience of the population and consolidate a more human and sustainable development model on the island.
