The Secretary of State for Democratic Memory, Fernando Martínez, participates today in the closing ceremony of the IV Edition of the Film Festival for Democratic Memory (Fescimed) with the award of the Special Youth Prize.
Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain, Madrid
The gala takes place at the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain, in Madrid. This festival, organized by the Art and Memory Association, is sponsored by the Secretary of State for Democratic Memory.
As a result of the Covid pandemic, this year’s edition has had a mixed format: the Official Short Films Section has been developed entirely online through http://www.fescimed.com on December 12, 13 and 14, while the round tables have been held in person, following all the security protocols and capacity allowed, on December 15 and 16 at the Cineteca in Madrid.
Apart from the festival’s list of winners, every year the Lola González Special Prize is awarded to the writer Almudena Grandes.
Despite the pandemic, this fourth edition has had a record of participation. 2,451 short films from 109 countries have been submitted to the selection, of which 18 have been selected to compete in the Official Section. The theme of all the works is developed around the democratic memory and the principles of truth, justice and reparation of the victims, as well as all those aspects that the authors and authors consider appropriate for the theme of this contest.
