Toledo
It has been eight decades since the end of the Spanish Civil War and the beginning of a long exile of Spaniards of all kinds and professions, among others, hundreds of university professors and intellectuals. Among the latter is a long list of jurists such as Luis Recasens Siches, Jiménez de Asúa, or Niceto Alcalá-Zamora y Castillo who were welcomed by the Spanish-American countries and their academic world, in which they contributed teachings and influence. The contribution of Mexico as a country of asylum is especially important, and this great contribution inspires the Day of Tribute to Mexico "The Spanish Jurists Welcomed in Mexico" that is held in Toledo, at the University of Castilla - La Mancha. With the inaugural conference "A Republic of Teachers" given by the director of the Ortega y Gasset Institute, Antonio López and the participation, among others, of Matilde Eiroa, Fernando Serrano, Luis Arroyo, Fernando Serrano Migallón, and Sergio Ramírez.
The Rector of the University, Miguel Ángel Collado, the President of the Cortes of Castilla-La Mancha, Jesús Fernández, the President of the Interministerial Commission of the Commemoration of the Republican Exile and Undersecretary of Justice, Cristina Latorre, and the Ambassador of Mexico, Roberta Lajous, are present. Fernando Serrano Migallón receives the Cross of Honor of the Order of San Raimundo of Peñafort. The Conference ends with the reading by Patxi Andion, professor emeritus of the University, of the poem "Between Spain and Mexico", by Pedro Garfias, composed during the trip to Mexico on the ship Sinaia.
