Exhibition "Black, red and other brigades". Paris. 10/23/2019.

Cervantes Institute of Paris, Paris (France)
As part of the program of commemorative events of the Spanish exile of 1939, the Cervantes Institute of Paris hosts the exhibition "Negras, rojas and other brigades".
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the acting undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, Cristina Latorre Sancho, and the director of the Cervantes Institute of Paris, Domingo García Cañedo, along with some of the twenty artists involved, curators of the exhibition and descendants of exiles. The exhibition is part of a project that proposes in 2019 the international ideal of yesterday’s and today’s struggles, resistance and solidarity through the vision of contemporary artists. Latorre Sancho, who spoke on behalf of the Historical Memory, has pointed out the need to take the exiled republican Spaniards out of oblivion and to value the trajectory they had in the host countries. "In ancient Greek, truth is said "aléthia". "A" means no and "létheia" forgot. Don’t forget is the truth. For decades, the exiles have felt a deep abandonment for Spain," said the undersecretary. In addition, he insisted that the events of the 80th anniversary of the exile, in which the exhibition is framed "seek to preserve the memory, bring to the Spanish citizens this reality, so many years hidden, distorted and condemned to oblivion, and pay tribute to the host countries". The exhibition is complemented by a publication on the subject that will be presented in Strasbourg on 27 November.
The curators of the exhibition, Antonio Gallego and Roberto Martínez, both children of exiles, with the complicity of the art critic Bernard Marcadé, and Kiko Hernández in the coordination, launched an invitation to a group of artists to present their visions and creations impregnated with the generous utopia of the image of the brigadist combatant during the civil war.
In the image of the volunteers who defended the Republic, this exhibition aims to summon up the international ideal of struggles, resistance and solidarity, through the works of contemporary artists from different countries and generations.
The project includes artists Jean-Michel Alberola, Philippe Cazal, Jordi Colomer, Alain Declercq, Jim Dine, Edi Dubien, Esther Ferrer, Andreas Maria Fohr, Antonio Gallego, Rafael Gray, Sharon Kivland, Arnaud Labelle-Rojoux, Claude Lévêque, Roberto Martinez, Diana Michener, Miquel Mont, Natacha Nieu, Françoise Cardon, Mathiechn. The exhibition will be on display until October 31.
