With almost a hundred activities, the Dominican Republic, guest of honor at the 78th edition of the Book Fair, brings us closer to the rich literary tradition of the country. The program, organized by the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Spain, honors the humanist Pedro Henríquez Ureña, the writer and former president Juan Bosch, and the novelist, storyteller and anthropologist, Marcio Veloz Maggiolo. Different events of the fair constitute a meeting point in which to show the cultural contribution of the Spanish republican exile to the Dominican Republic.
Presentation of the book "Spanish in Santo Domingo. Graphic history", by Roberto Cassá, Genaro Rodríguez Morel and Olivo Rodríguez Huertas. Celebration of different gatherings, among others, "Coincidences and differences between Spain and the Dominican Republic, during and after the dictatorships of Franco and Trujillo", with Pilar Cernuda and Adriano Miguel Tejada.
At the opening of the exhibition "The Spanish Republican Exile in the Dominican Republic 1939-1940. More powerful than death", attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, Cristina Latorre, the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Spain, Olivo Rodríguez Huertas, said that for his country this exhibition has a special meaning and seeks to recognize the Spanish exiles who took refuge in the Caribbean island in very difficult conditions. He also expressed his gratitude to Spain, given the contributions made by the exiles.
